Local Donation Boosts DARE Program - Sgt. Lesley Hill

Local Donation Boosts DARE ProgramAs the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office prepares to present local school children with the Drug Abuse Resistance Education (DARE) Program for the 21st year in a row, Sheriff Craig Webre extends a very big “thank you” to the Swamp Rider’s Club for their recent $8,000 donation to DARE. Every year the club chooses a non-profit organization to support with a benefit raffle and cook off. This year, the DARE Program was selected.

The cook off was held on April 10th at the Armadillo Club. During the event, LPSO Personnel led by Chief Bud Dill with DARE and School Resource Officers assisting took second place with their version of Hawaiian Chicken.

In a ceremony held last month, Lester and Darnell Boudreaux presented a check for $8,000 on behalf of the club. “I am proud that the DARE Program has touched the lives of thousands of Lafourche Parish children since 1990,” said Sheriff Webre. “Donations such as the very generous one from the Swamp Rider’s will help ensure we can continue to give young people the realistic tools they need to say no to drugs,” he added.

To find out more about the DARE program, go to the LPSO website, www.lpso.net or School Services Section Supervisor at 985-532-2255.
