| Sheriff Warns Dumpsters Don't Always Hold Garbage - Sgt. Lesley Hill |
| |
Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of two men charged with stealing hundreds of pounds of metal from a local fabrication shop. The theft was first reported on July 7 at M & M Fabrication on Talbot Avenue in Thibodaux. Employees had noticed a dumpster, used to store scrap metal from jobs, was being emptied at night, a little bit at a time. The dumpster sits clearly on private property and when it reached a certain level, the metal was sold.
An investigation led detectives to Cody Matherne (W/M, DOB 1/15/1992, 231 Laris Drive, Mathews) and Tony Vedros (W/M, DOB 5/29/1991, 345 Adams Street, Raceland) who were arrested July 15th and booked with theft over $500 (R.S. 14:67.10.B1) and criminal trespassing (R.S. 14:63). Detectives believe the pair stole approximately 800 pounds of scrap metal from the yard over the last three months. At this time, bond has not yet been set.
