Neighborhood Watch Program
In 1972 the National
Sheriffs’ Association organized the National Neighborhood
Watch Program, in response to hundreds of local law
enforcement agencies request in developing crime prevention
programs, based on citizen participation.
Neighborhood Watch is
a program designed to help individual citizens help
themselves and their neighbors to prevent crime
Neighborhood Watch is
a system of organizing residents in a given geographical
area, so that the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office can
teach the techniques of Crime Prevention. Together, the
residents can watch out for each other, and eliminate the
opportunity for a crime to be committed. You become the eyes
and ears of your community.
Q: HOW DO I START A
NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH GROUP?
A: First form a small
committee of neighbors to discuss needs, interests and
potential neighborhood problems. Decide on a couple of
possible dates and a location for an initial Neighborhood
Watch meeting.
B: Next contact the
Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Community Relations Deputy
and confirm meeting date. Community Relations Deputy will
bring survey forms to assess your community’s specific
needs.
C: Finally, contact as
many of your neighbors as possible, asking them:
You may be surprised
at how many will be interested!!!
This program is
courtesy of Sheriff Craig Webre and no cost to the citizens.
