The Lafourche Sheriff's Regional P.O.S.T. Training Academy is responsible for basic law enforcement training for new law enforcement officers. Lesson plans must meet the requirements of the Louisiana P.O.S.T. (Louisiana Peace Officer Standards and Training) Council. New officers from throughout the state attend the academy which conducts up to six annual sessions. The Training staff also organizes and conducts recertifications for current deputies of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office and other local agencies. Email or call (985) 449-4480.
The Shooting Range Facility, located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland, is open to the general public from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday at a cost of $10 per person per day for unlimited use. It is also open to law enforcement officers ONLY during those hours on Monday and Tuesday as personnel from more than 30 agencies utilize the range including local, state, and federal military agencies, as well as private security companies. The facility allows gun owners and enthusiasts to hone their skills in a safe, controlled environment and includes the following ranges:
- 25-person pistol range
- 100-yard & 200-yard rifle ranges
- youth and adult archery ranges
Children ages 10 to 17 must be accompanied by an adult. Targets and backing are available for sale to the general public. Ammunition is sold to law enforcement personnel only. The facility is also used for public courses and academy training. For more information, Email or call (985) 438-7873.
