Reserves

Crime prevention is a team effort between law enforcement agencies and the community. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office employs a proactive approach to cultivate the team effort by promoting community-based policing through recruiting and training Reserve (volunteer) deputies.

  • Auxiliary Reserve – performs non-enforcement duties such as teaching and data processing. Must work a minimum of 6 hours per month. Initially requires 24 hours of orientation to learn the LPSO’s mission, structure, policy, and procedures, as well as 16-20 hours of specific training for assigned duties.
  • P.O.S.T.-certified Reserve has all the same duties, responsibilities, and authority as a full-time deputy. Must work a minimum of 16 hours per month and can work paid details thereafter. Initially requires the same 360 hours of training as a full-time deputy. Must go through annual evaluation and re-certifications.
