During the early morning hours of Saturday, February 11, 2012, deputies responded to a Raceland residence in reference to three female juveniles getting into a car with two adult black males to go ride around. After meeting with the complainants, deputies began looking for the vehicle in question. During the search, deputies learned that one of the juveniles had returned home. Through interviews and investigation, deputies learned that the three juveniles were riding with the two adult black males, when the driver, James Bellvie (B/M, D.O.B. 05/31/93) of 872 Serenity Drive in Raceland, made the other male and two of the juveniles exit the vehicle. Deputies learned that Bellvie then had sexual relations with the juvenile, who was under the age of 13, inside the car. Detectives made contact with Bellvie, and he agreed to meet with them. During questioning, Bellvie admitted to having sex with the juvenile and said it was consensual. He was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked with Aggravated Rape (due to the female being under the age of 13 years). He remains there in lieu of $100,000.00 bond as set by Judge John LeBlanc.
On the night of Saturday, February 4, shortly before midnight, Joel Chiasson (W/M, D.O.B. 10/26/81) was inside a bar room on LA Highway 304 in the Choupic area (near Thibodaux), when he gave a look to another male patron at the bar which made the other man angry. Through investigation, deputies learned that Chiasson then exited the bar, followed by the other man and several others. Chiasson avoided the other man, entered his S.U.V., and entered onto Highway 304 headed east. Chiasson then drove off the roadway into the bar parking lot and struck the other man who came out of his shoes, crashed into Chiassons windshield, and continued flying over the S.U.V. before landing on the ground. Chiasson continued heading east on Highway 304 after striking the man. The victim, complaining of pain in the hip, lower abdomen and ankle, was transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center by Acadian Ambulance. The victim was later found to have no broken bones, but did have some bruising and abrasions. Deputies began searching for Chiasson following the incident, but could not locate him at any known addresses, nor could they locate the vehicle in the surrounding areas. A warrant was then issued for Chiassons arrest. Chiasson turned himself on Friday at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was booked with Aggravated Battery with a Dangerous Weapon and subsequently released on $5,000.00 bond.
