Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a seat belt checkpoint is scheduled for Saturday, March 24 during the evening hours in the central area of Lafourche Parish. Deputies will be checking to make sure all vehicle occupants are properly restrained. Sheriff Webre reminds drivers that the use of seat belts is always important and can mean the difference between life and death in crashes.
Per Louisiana State law (R.S. 32:295.1), upon conviction of the first offense, the driver faces a $25.00 fine including court costs, and any subsequent conviction carries a $50.00 fine including court costs.
