Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the search for 22-year-old Dustin Thomassie ended tragically this morning as deputies located his body in the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway (GIWW) in Larose. Thomassie had been missing since a boat crash early Sunday morning. He was located in the GIWW approximately a half-mile away from the Delta Farms area in Larose.
While details of the crash itself are still under investigation, it is believed Thomassie and 26-year-old Jordan Duet left to go frogging (hunting for frogs) around 3:00 A.M. Sunday morning. Thomassie posted a message to Facebook shortly after 4:00 A.M., and it is believed the crash occurred sometime after that. Duet was later picked up by a passing boater at 6:30 A.M. Sunday morning.
Members from several agencies assisted in the search which began early Sunday morning including Lafourche Parish Government Office of Emergency Preparedness, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Office of the Louisiana State Fire Marshal, St. Charles Parish Sheriffs Office, Jefferson Parish Sheriffs Office, and Louisiana Task Force 1 Urban Search and Rescue.
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries will handle the investigation of the crash.
