Shortly after 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, patrol deputies were dispatched to 700 Ledet Drive, Lot 8 in Thibodaux in reference to a domestic disturbance involving a handgun. While en route, deputies were notified that Rory King (B/M, D.O.B. 10/29/81), a resident of that address, had fled the scene in a vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle at a traffic signal at the intersection of LA Highway 1 and LA Highway 648. Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop, but the vehicle proceeded to turn left onto a bridge and then north onto LA Highway 308. Deputies followed the vehicle as the driver continued to accelerate to speeds over 80 miles per hour attempting to evade deputies. After passing Audubon Avenue, the vehicle crossed over to and began traveling in the southbound lane forcing oncoming traffic off the roadway. The vehicle then turned onto Rosedown Drive and traveled through a subdivision until finally coming to a rest in a parking lot along Canal Boulevard. Deputies ordered the driver out of the vehicle, identified him as Rory King, and placed him under arrest. Deputies also recovered and secured a handgun found inside of the vehicle. While speaking to King, deputies detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage on Kings breath. King refused to take the Standardized Field Sobriety Test but agreed to submit to a breathalyzer test. The results showed King had a blood alcohol content of .237g%. King was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux on charges of DWI (2nd offense) and aggravated flight from an officer (intentional refusal to stop and life endangerment). He is being held in lieu of $77,000 bond as set by Judge Ashly Bruce Simpson.
While on patrol in the Galliano area during the early morning hours of August 11, deputies noticed a black pickup truck fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of West 157th Street and West Main Street. Deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle and identified the driver as Adam Griffin (W/M, D.O.B. 06/22/76) of 220 East 36th Street in Cut Off and noticed an open container of alcohol inside the vehicle. Griffin exhibited signs of intoxication, and so deputies conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test on which Griffin performed poorly. Deputies then obtained voluntary consent from Griffin to search his vehicle. Inside, deputies located two open containers with residue of suspected marijuana as well as drug paraphernalia. During a search of Griffins person, deputies located a small bag containing suspected cocaine. Deputies placed Griffin under arrest and transported him to the South Lafourche Sub-station. There, Griffin submitted to a breathalyzer test which showed him to have a blood alcohol content of .099g%. Griffin was then transported to the Detention Center and booked with DWI (3rd offense), possession of cocaine (less than 28 grams), possession of drug paraphernalia, failure to stop, and having an open container inside a motor vehicle. He is being held in lieu of $15,550 bond as set by Judge Simpson.
