Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported deputies have a suspect in custody responsible for approximately 20 burglaries overnight in the South Lafourche area. Chad Anthony Breaux (W/M, D.O.B. 03-11-86) of West 168th Street in Galliano was found in possession of a large amount of stolen property when deputies arrested him shortly after 4:00 A.M. this morning.
Prior to Breauxs arrest, patrol deputies responded to several reports of burglaries in the Cut Off area. Then around 4:15 A.M., deputies responded to a report of a car blocking the drive-through lane at a restaurant on LA Highway 3162 in Cut Off. Upon arrival, deputies noticed the driver was slumped over with the vehicle still in drive with the drivers foot on the brake. As the deputies turned off the vehicle, they noticed a large amount of items in plain view inside the vehicle, including some that had been reported stolen earlier that night. The driver, who had been asleep, was identified by deputies as Chad Breaux. He was taken into custody and transported to the South Lafourche Sub-station in Galliano.
Detectives are continuing to investigate this string of overnight burglaries. They have recovered a number of electronic devices including cell phones, cameras, laptops and GPS navigation systems. Purses and wallets were also recovered. Further information regarding this case, including total number of charges for Breaux, will be released following an investigation by detectives.
Residents in the Cut Off area, especially in the area between West 47th Street and West 54th Street, are encouraged to inspect their vehicles, sheds, garages and any unsecured items around their homes. Report any missing items or any signs of entry immediately to the Lafourche Parish Sheriffs Office at (985) 798-2255.
