Sheriff Craig Webre reported two arrests during the annual Blue Light Special patrol on Halloween. William Martin (W/M, D.O.B. 12/16/51) of 5241 Highway 1 in Raceland, a registered Tier 3 sex offender, was arrested after deputies found he had altered his license in an attempt to conceal his status as a sex offender. Additionally, Lorrie Cortez Rink (W/F, D.O.B. 04/07/71) of 126 B Solar Trailer Park in Thibodaux was issued citations for several misdemeanor charges including DWI and marijuana possession.
As part of the annual Blue Light Special, every available deputy assigned a unit (vehicle) patrols the streets of Lafourche Parish to help ensure the safety of those partaking in Halloween festivities. A new aspect of this effort was added in 2011 where deputies also visit Tier 3 sex offenders to ensure they are complying with the aspects of their sentence. During this effort Wednesday night, deputies arrived at William Martins residence and made contact with him there. Deputies asked to see Martins drivers license and he handed it over to them. Deputies then noticed the words SEX OFFENDER on the license had been covered with black ink and was not legible. Deputies placed Martin under arrest for altering his license (RS 40:1321) and transported him to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Martin was booked into the Detention Center where he is currently being held in lieu of $5,000 bond. All other Tier 3 sex offenders were found to be in compliance.
Meanwhile, deputies were patrolling in Thibodaux during the Blue Light Special when they received a complaint about a vehicle being operated in a careless manner. Deputies located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop. The driver was identified as Lorrie Rink. Deputies found Rink to have an open container of an alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle as well as a marijuana cigarette. Deputies conducted a Standardized Field Sobriety Test on which Rink performed poorly. She was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where she submitted to a urinalysis. Results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. Rink was issued a summons for DWI (1st offense), possession of marijuana, careless operation, and having an open container inside a motor vehicle.
