Detectives Arrest Raceland Man Wanted for Armed Robbery

Donald Loston

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of a Raceland man who robbed an elderly man after striking him in the head with a tire tool Saturday evening. On Thursday, detectives arrested Donald Loston (B/M, D.O.B. 09/04/57) of 526 Triple Oaks Drive who had lured the man under the pretext that he needed assistance with a flat tire.

On Saturday evening, an elderly man arrived at his Raceland residence when he was approached by a man, later identified as Donald Loston. Loston had been driving a truck and followed the man to his home. Loston told the man he had a flat tire and was in need of a jack. The man decided to help and retrieved a floor jack. As the man approached Loston and his vehicle, he noticed a tire that was low, but not flat. Still, the man examined the tire and Loston told him he would drive back to his house with the tire as is since his spare tire had been removed from the truck. As the man began to walk away, Loston pursued and grabbed him, eventually taking the man’s wallet. As the man struggled to get away, Loston struck him in the head with a tire tool, and immediately fled the scene.

Through investigation this week, detectives identified Loston as the suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. After making several attempts to locate him, detectives spotted him walking in the Raceland area early Thursday morning. He was placed under arrest as per the active warrants and subsequently confessed to the armed robbery of the victim.

Loston was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked on warrants for armed robbery, aggravated second degree battery, cruelty to the infirmed and three counts of unauthorized use of an access card as theft. He is being held in lieu of $380,000 bond as set by the warrants. He is also being held for the Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole. Loston’s criminal history dates back to 1975 and includes nine prior arrests for crimes including a prior armed robbery, theft, assault, battery and drug distribution.
