Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of a man and woman from Raceland following a traffic stop on Wednesday. Bart Howes (W/M, D.O.B. 05/16/83) of 136 Elm Street and Katrina Porche (W/F, D.O.B. 12/14/88) of 703 St. Philip Street were arrested after deputies discovered drugs and a firearm during a traffic stop for a non-functioning taillight.
While on patrol in the Raceland area, deputies noticed a vehicle traveling northbound on LA Highway 1 with a taillight not functioning and initiated a traffic stop. Upon stopping, the driver later identified as Bart Howes, exited the vehicle, and deputies detected the odor of marijuana coming from him. Howes voluntarily consented to a search of the vehicle, and deputies discovered approximately 2.1 grams of suspected marijuana, a small amount of suspected methamphetamine, 8 suspected Soma pills, drug paraphernalia, and a rifle with ammunition. Deputies learned the drugs and paraphernalia belonged to Howes and Katrina Porche, who was a passenger in the vehicle. Deputies also learned Howes had a previous felony conviction.
Both Howes and Porche were arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Both were booked on charges of carrying a weapon in the presence of controlled dangerous substances, as well as possession of marijuana, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. Howes was additionally charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and no taillight, and he is being held in lieu of $58,600 bond as set by Judge Ashly Bruce Simpson. Porche was additionally charged with possession of Soma, and she is being held in lieu of $5,000 bond as set by Judge Simpson.
