On October 16, 2012, deputies were called to a business on East 40th Street to investigate a burglary. Upon arrival, deputies learned that approximately 1,400 gallons of diesel fuel was missing as well as a chainsaw and 50 pounds of copper. They also found evidence of forced entry at a rear gate of the business near a diesel tank where a large amount of diesel had been spilled. Through investigation, detectives developed the five men as suspects in the case.

On May 22, 2013, Robert Chouest was arrested for second degree murder after he admitted to firing a single shot at the head of Shawn Galjour who was lying in a neighbor's driveway.

On October 17, 2013, agents with the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force learned Paul Charpentier, who had an active warrant for Contempt of Court related to child support, was aboard his boat docked at a boat launch in Golden Meadow. Upon arrival, agents located Charpentier and identified another man with him as Gabriel Cheramie who had an active warrant for Distribution of Methamphetamine. Charpentier voluntarily consented to a search of the boat which led agents to find approximately 138 grams of suspected marijuana, various drug paraphernalia and two shotguns. Agents also noticed Cheramie's vehicle parked near the boat, and Cheramie voluntarily consented to a search of the vehicle. During the vehicle search, agents discovered around 2.2 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine and a loaded handgun which was later determined to be stolen. During questioning, Cheramie admitted to stealing the firearm several weeks prior.

At that time, Charpentier and Cheramie were both arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where they were both booked with Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. Charpentier was also booked per the contempt warrant and with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. Cheramie was additionally booked on his outstanding warrant for meth distribution, as well as Possession of Methamphetamine and Theft of a Firearm.

Detectives questioned Charpentier, Cheramie and Chouest about the diesel theft, and following further investigation, charged each of them with Felony Theft. Charpentier was released after posting $14,500 bond, and Cheramie was released after posting $33,000 bond. Chouest, meanwhile, remains in jail, and his bond has now increased to $755,000. Wood turned himself in on Wednesday morning and is currently being held in lieu of $5,000 bond.
