Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, March 19. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 262 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint which occurred on the southbound lanes of LA Highway 316 at its intersection with U.S. Highway 90 on Wednesday, March 12. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C participated in the checkpoint wherein the following violations were reported:
- 3 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers
- 3 seat belt violations
- 2 child restraint violations
- 1 driving under suspension
- 1 expired vehicle registration
