Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Thursday, April 17. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 2487 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint which occurred on the southbound lane of LA Highway 308 at the Raceland Upper Elementary School Zone on Wednesday, April 9. During that checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
- 7 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers
- 11 seat belt violations
- 3 improper child restraints
