Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Wednesday, August 13. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
A total of 340 vehicles passed through the last Highway Safety Checkpoint conducted along the southbound lane of LA Highway 1 near the St. Charles Community on Wednesday, August 6. During the checkpoint, deputies reported the following violations:
- 4 expired vehicle inspection stickers
- 5 seat belt violations
- 2 improper child restraints
