Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct two Highway Safety Checkpoints in Lafourche Parish on Friday, August 29 and Sunday, August 31. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, expired/suspended driver's licenses, and other violations.
This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
Sheriff Webre reminds all drivers be careful on the highways over the Labor Day holiday weekend and to designate a driver if you plan to consume alcohol. Lafourche Parish is a "no refusal" parish. If a suspected impaired driver refuses to submit to a breathalyzer test, deputies will seek a a warrant for a blood test.
