Checkpoints Scheduled for Thursday and Friday

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will be conducting multiple checkpoints in Lafourche Parish again this week and announced the results of last week’s checkpoints. Deputies will conduct a Highway Safety Checkpoint on Thursday, September 25, and will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, expired inspection tags, and other violations. Then on Friday, September 26, deputies will conduct Seat Belt and DWI checkpoints where they will be checking for the aforementioned violations as well as drivers who are possibly impaired.
Thursday’s Highway Safety Checkpoint wraps up the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's twelve-month campaign to raise awareness for those types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists. A similar twelve-month campaign will be announced soon and will begin in October.  
Last week, a total of 957 vehicles passed through the Highway Safety Checkpoint conducted along the northbound and southbound lanes of LA Highway 20 near its intersection with LA Highway 304 in Chackbay on Thursday, September 18. During that checkpoint, deputies reported 12 seat belt violations, 10 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers, three improper child restraints, two persons driving under suspension, and one driver with an expired license.
Deputies charged three people with Driving While Intoxicated during a DWI checkpoint held this past weekend along the northbound and southbound lanes of LA Highway 1 near Fantastic Acres Boulevard in Raceland. A total of 1,300 vehicles passed through the checkpoint which began Saturday night and continued into the early morning hours of Sunday, September 21. Deputies also charged motorists with three seat belt violations, two child restraint violations, and seven other violations, and they issued nine warnings.
