Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office will conduct a Seat Belt Checkpoint in Lafourche Parish during the daylight hours of Thursday, February 26. This checkpoint, originally scheduled for Wednesday, was moved due to expected inclement weather. Deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as other violations such as expired inspection tags. This checkpoint is part of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff's Office's year-long campaign designed to raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
The last seat belt checkpoint was held on Wednesday, February 18 along the eastbound lane of LA Highway 24 in Larose. Of the 343 vehicles which passed through the checkpoint, deputies reported 7 expired motor vehicle inspection stickers, 4 seat belt violations, 4 child restraint violations, 1 expired vehicle registration. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C assisted in the checkpoint.
