Galliano Man Arrested after Attempting to Swallow Meth to Conceal from Agents

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Daniel Barrios II (age 46) of Galliano on Saturday, January 23. At around 1:35 a.m., agents with the Lafourche Parish Drug Task Force initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on LA Highway 308 in Larose just north of the T-Bois Lift Bridge. During the stop, agents identified the rear-seat passenger as Daniel Barrios II. Knowing Barrios to have multiple warrants for his arrest, agents immediately took Barrios into custody. In talking to Barrios, agents noticed Barrios was not speaking clearly, and they ordered him to open his mouth to check if he was attempting to conceal anything from them. Barrios initially attempted to swallow the bags, and agents noticed several small bags in his mouth. Agents ordered Barrios to empty his mouth, and he eventually complied, revealing four small bags, which included suspected methamphetamine and an unknown white substance. Agents also discovered several other bags near Barrios in the patrol car where he had been detained, as well as another bag inside the car in which he was traveling. In all, agents seized approximately 4.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine, as well as approximately one gram of the unknown substance. A field test yielded a positive result on the suspected methamphetamine. All substances are being sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge for further testing. Barrios was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux on the aforementioned warrants for eight (8) counts of Contempt of Court. He was also booked on charges of Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Obstruction Of Justice. His bond is set at $292,000.
