Larose Man Dies in Utility Vehicle Crash

Sheriff Craig Webre reported 20-year-old Gaven Chouest of Larose died as a result of a utility vehicle crash in Larose on Thursday, February 4. At around 6:30 p.m., deputies responded to a utility vehicle crash near the entrance of the Larose Landing subdivision. Through investigation, deputies learned Gaven Chouest was operating a Polaris utility vehicle, driving northbound on the shoulder of LA Highway 1. As Chouest turned left into the subdivision, he struck a median on Avalon Avenue, causing the ATV to rotate. Chouest, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the vehicle, and the vehicle came to rest on top of him. Chouest was pronounced dead at the scene. Alcohol use is not suspected to be a factor in the crash, but routine toxicology tests are pending.  This crash remains under investigation. Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C and members of the Lockport Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene to assist.
