Raceland Man Bites Deputy While Resisting Arrest

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Chasarae Wheaten (age 33) of Raceland. At around 8:05 p.m. on Wednesday, March 9, deputies began investigating an incident wherein Wheaten and a woman were involved in a verbal altercation when Wheaten struck the female in the head. Deputies then proceeded to Wheaten’s residence on Morristown Road in Raceland to attempt to make contact with him about the incident. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with Wheaten, but he retreated inside his residence. As deputies made entry, Wheaten charged at deputies in an aggressive manner and a struggle ensued. As deputies were attempting to handcuff Wheaten, he bit one of the deputies on the arm. After Wheaten was detained, he was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with Second Degree Battery, Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence, and Simple Battery. His bond was set at $65,000. The deputy which suffered the bite wound was treated at a local hospital and released.
