Raceland Man Charged with 3rd DWI Monday Afternoon

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Taj Harris (age 31) of Raceland on Monday, April 25. Shortly after 1:30 p.m., patrol deputies in the Raceland area initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle after the driver was found to be speeding on Saint Louis Street. Deputies made contact with the driver and identified him as Taj Harris. They detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Harris, and he admitted to drinking prior to driving. Harris performed poorly on a field sobriety test, and a breathalyzer test indicated he had a blood alcohol content of .111g%. Deputies learned Harris had two prior DWI convictions, and his license was currently suspended. Harris was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with DWI (3rd Offense), speeding, and driving under suspension. His bond is set at $11,100.
