Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Michael Robinson (age 42) of Thibodaux on Monday, May 2. On the afternoon of Friday, April 29, deputies responded to a complaint wherein an elderly woman had numerous fraudulent transactions on her bank card. Through investigation, detectives learned Michael Robinson performed work for the woman at her home during the week. Investigators also learned the woman had entrusted the card to Robinson on the dates of the transactions in order for him to purchase groceries for her. Detectives made contact with Robinson on Monday, May 2 and questioned him about the transactions. During questioning, Robinson admitted to his involvements. He was placed under arrest and charged with Use of an Access Card as Theft and Theft of Assets of an Aged/Disabled Person, both felonies. He also had three outstanding warrants for his arrest for Contempt of Court. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux on the aforementioned charges. His bond is set at $65,000, and he has been ordered to pay $419.50 in fines and costs stemming from the contempt warrants.

Sheriff Craig Webre cautions citizens, especially the elderly, to be wary of entrusting cash or access cards to anyone, especially someone you may not know very well. “Unfortunately, we see all too often that criminals tend to target the elderly due to their trusting nature,” said Sheriff Webre. “You should never give your PIN number to anyone, and only entrust use of your personal finances to family members or trusted friends. Regardless, you should always be careful because sometimes the temptation of the opportunity is too great even for someone you trust.”
