Convicted Felon Steals Rifle and Cell Phone from Man Who Gave Him a Ride

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Yaswanta Lawson (age 33) of Lockport on Wednesday, September 14. Just after 12:00 a.m. on Wednesday, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies and officers from the Lockport Police Department responded to the Rita Community in Lockport after receiving a call of an unknown male subject walking in the neighborhood with a semi-automatic rifle. Deputies learned he had knocked on the door of a residence but kept walking when no one answered. Upon arrival to the area, deputies observed the subject throw the rifle under a residence on East Lafourche Street and made contact with the subject who was identified as Yaswanta Lawson, a convicted felon.
