Cut Off Man Charged with Fourth DWI Following a Hit and Run

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Clifton Remont Jr. (age 61) of Cut Off on Sunday, September 25. At around 11 p.m. on Sunday, deputies responded to Lady of the Sea General Hospital in Galliano in reference to a hit and run. A witness observed a male driver strike the bumper of another vehicle with his. The driver exited the vehicle to inspect the damage, but then he drove away from the scene of the crash. Through investigation, deputies learned the driver was back at the hospital. They located the driver, identified as Clifton Remont Jr., and he admitted to striking the  vehicle and then leaving the scene. While speaking to Remont, deputies observed him to be exhibiting signs of possible impairment. Remont admitted to deputies that he had consumed illegal prescription medications. He then submitted to a field sobriety test on which he performed poorly. He also submitted to a breathalyzer test which showed him to have a blood alcohol level of .000g%, but due to his admission of consumption of narcotics, a blood sample was drawn and sent to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab in Baton Rouge for testing. Deputies learned Remont’s license was currently suspended and that he had three prior DWI arrests. Remont was placed under arrest and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with DWI (4th Offense), Hit and Run Driving, and driving under suspension. He was released on Monday morning after posting $50,500 bond.
