Suspect Arrested after He Was Caught Burglarizing Thibodaux Residence

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Jason Copper (age 40) of Baldwin. At around 8:45 a.m. on January 3, deputies were investigating a burglary at a Thibodaux residence on LA Highway 308. A man had spotted the suspect parked at a family member’s residence and approached him. As he did, the suspect entered the sedan and fled the scene. Through investigation, deputies learned a ring, a pistol, and a rifle had been stolen from the residence. Meanwhile, other deputies learned the suspect’s vehicle was traveling along LA 20. Information about the suspect’s vehicle was relayed to the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office. TPSO deputies located the vehicle, and the driver, identified as Copper, was taken into custody. When deputies questioned Copper about the burglary, he admitted to his involvement. Copper was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was charged with Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. His bond is set at $175,000, and he is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole due to being on parole.
