Meetings Scheduled for Subcontractors Interested in Working on the New Jail Project

Sheriff Craig Webre is encouraging subcontractors interested in working on the new jail to attend outreach meetings planned for March and April in Thibodaux. Yates Construction, the Construction Manager at Risk for the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex project, is hosting the meetings to attract local subcontractors for the project.

On Thursday, February 4, Yates held the first of three subcontractor outreach meetings designed to create interest in the project and disseminate information about the project to the local subcontractor community. Two additional meetings will be held Wednesday, March 9, and Tuesday, April 12. Each meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and will be held at the Hampton Inn & Suites located at 826 North Canal Boulevard in Thibodaux. Each event will present information about the project at the current state of the design, discuss possible ways that attending subcontractors may be able to participate in the project, discussing the procurement process of this subcontracting plan, and record the attendance of all attending subcontractors and insure that their contact information is added to Yates’ database of subcontractors.  Yates will use the database to keep interested subcontractors informed as to when the pre-qualification process will begin, when bid documents will be available, when pre-bid meetings will be held and the status of bid dates.

The new jail project is utilizing the Construction Manager at Risk method which entails a commitment by the construction manager to deliver the project within a specified cost through working with the architect to ensure the design fulfills the needs of the facility. The Lafourche Parish Law Enforcement District signed a contract with Yates Construction in November 2015 to be Construction Manager for the project. Yates participated in a vetting process with several interested companies which included Requests for Qualifications, a review by an evaluation team, and a presentation by each company.

As announced in September, the team of GraceHebert Architects/Duplantis Design Group is designing the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex which will be constructed on property located on Veterans Boulevard directly across from the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.

Construction is expected to begin this Spring, and plans for a groundbreaking ceremony will soon be announced.
