What do you sell?
The Sheriff’s sale consists of Real Estate and “Movables” (anything that moves-vehicles, boats, etc.)

When do you have the sales?
Sales are every 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.  Sales are not held on holidays.

Where is the Sheriff’s sale held and when does it start?
The sale is held at the Thibodaux City Hall Council Chamber, 310 W 2nd St, Thibodaux, LA 70301 at 10:00 A.M

Do you advertise the items in the local paper, The Daily Comet?
Yes, we do, if it is Real Estate, the items are advertised twice: Thirty (30) days before the sale on Thursday and ten (10) days before the sale on Thursday. If it is a “movable,” the items are advertised ten (10) days before the sale on a Thursday.

Does the Sheriff guarantee clear title?
No, it is the responsibility of the bidder to research mortgage certificates for any liens.

Once you have a list, can you view the Real Estate or Movable?
Yes, you can. If it is Real Estate, you can drive by and only view the exterior. You are not able to enter the property.  If it is a movable, you can go to the location of where the movable is stored. Call 985-449-4443 for the location of the movable.

When Real Estate or a Movable is WITH APPRAISEMENT, at what price will the bidding start?
The bidding will start at two-thirds of the appraised value.

When Real Estate or a Movable is WITHOUT APPRAISEMENT, at what price will the bidding start?
That is determined by the Sheriff’s cost and Clerk’s cost which will be calculated the Tuesday before the sale.

When will you get the appraised value?
The appraised value will be given on the Monday afternoon before the sale.  Call (985) 449-4443 for the appraised value.

Where do you get a Sheriff’s Sale list of the items coming up for sale?
The list is available on the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office website. Click at the top of this page, or click on Sheriff’s Sales (conveniently located under the “I Want to…” menu). Click on “Property List Search” and enter the date to view the sales that will occur.

Who is eligible to bid?
The sale is open to the public. However, if a person has bid on a property and neglected to pay that bid and the property goes back to auction, that person is no longer eligible to bid.

How and where do you pay?
If you are the winning bidder, please pay with cash or a Cashier’s check to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office located at 200 Canal Blvd, Thibodaux.

If you are the highest bidder, how long do you have to pay and how much?
The winning bidder must pay within 10 days of the sale date in the full amount with a cashier’s check.
