Larose Man Arrested after Crashing a Stolen Truck While Intoxicated and Leaving the Scene

Sheriff Craig Webre and Louisiana State Police announced the arrest of Rhett Thibodeaux (age 20) of Larose after he stole a truck and crashed it while driving intoxicated then fled the scene. Shortly after 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, Troopers from Louisiana State Police Troop C and LPSO Deputies responded to a crash on LA 308 in Cut Off, LA. Upon arrival, Troopers and Deputies observed that the vehicle had crashed through a small building. They were then advised the driver of the vehicle fled on foot toward East 36th Street. Deputies searched the area and observed a man lying under a truck in the driveway of a residence in the 100 block of East 36th Street. They shined a spotlight on the subject, and he again fled on foot. Deputies pursued the subject, eventually catching up to him and taking him into custody. The man initially gave a false name, but was later identified as Rhett Thibodeaux, and Deputies determined him to be the driver who fled the scene of the crash. As Troopers were handling the crash investigation, it was learned the vehicle Thibodeaux was driving had been stolen from a Cut Off resident.

Troopers determined Thibodeaux was impaired and placed him under arrest for DWI, among other charges. Thibodeaux did submit to a breathalyzer test which showed him to have a blood alcohol level of .130g%.

Thibodeaux was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux, LA, where he was booked on charges including Theft of a Motor Vehicle, Resisting an Officer, DWI (2nd Offense), Hit and Run, and Careless Operation. He was also booked with an outstanding warrant for Contempt of Court related to a drug court violation. He is currently being held without bond per the contempt warrant.
