Thibodaux Man Arrested for Pornography Involving Juveniles and Other Cybercrime

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Lane Levron, 18, of Thibodaux on Wednesday. Levron was arrested on warrants for Pornography Involving Juveniles, Computer-aided Solicitation for Sexual Purposes, and Cyberbullying. The arrest is part of an ongoing investigation being conducted in coordination with the FBI.

Investigators learned Levron was using multiple accounts under false names on Snapchat, the mobile messaging service app. Using those accounts, he contacted several juvenile females demanding they send nude photos to him, threatening to expose other nude photos of the girls he claimed to have. Some of the girls complied. He also threatened to post one of the girl’s photos unless she met him to have sex.

On Wednesday, February 20, juvenile detectives made contact with Levron and he was placed under arrest. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on the aforementioned charges, and his bond is set at $150,000.

Based on the investigation, detectives believe there may be additional victims. Levron admitted to his involvement in the crimes and confirmed he operated under the Snapchat usernames “Camthebeast31” and “Markoutlaw.” Sheriff Webre is asking any potential victims to contact Lieutenant Sean Scott with the Juvenile Investigations Section at (985) 532-4334.

Sheriff Webre is advising parents to talk with their children to ensure they understand the dangers associated with smartphone apps and social media. “Parents, be sure your children understand that once they hit send on a message, picture, video, or a snap, they have lost control over that content,” said Sheriff Webre. “Some apps give users the false impression that the pictures or videos you send cannot be saved by the recipient, but that is not true. Where there is a will, there is a way, and criminals will find a way.”

“As for parents, you must take an active role,” said Sheriff Webre. “Ensure you are constantly monitoring what your child is doing on their smartphone or device. Define rules and parameters for using those devices, and be sure you have all the current passwords for your child’s own safety.”
