UPDATE: Suspect identified as 39-year-old Daniel Borne of Cut Off.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported a suspect who led deputies on a high-speed pursuit on Tuesday afternoon in the south Lafourche area is in custody. The male suspect fired several rounds at deputies during the pursuit. We will have more information about the incident and pending criminal charges in a later update.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a Thibodaux man is wanted for molestation of a juvenile. A no bond warrant has been issued for Gustavo Melgares (age 32) of Thibodaux.
On the afternoon of Friday, October 13, juvenile detectives opened an investigation in reference to an allegation of the molestation of a child under the age of 13 by Melgares. Following an investigation into the matter, detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest.
Detectives are asking for the public’s help to locate Gustavo Melgares. It is believed he may be in the Houma area in Terrebonne Parish. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers Bayou Region by phone at 1-800-743-7433 or online at www.crimestoppersbr.org. Tips can also be submitted using the P3 Tips app on your mobile device. Tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 in cash if the information leads to an arrest.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced a Concealed Handgun Training Course will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017, at the LPSO Shooting Range Facility located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland. The class will begin at 8:00 a.m. and last until approximately 5:00 p.m. with a break for lunch. The actual ending time will vary due to class size.

The cost for the course is $110, and advance registration is suggested due to limited class size. This course is a pre-requisite for those applying for a Concealed Handgun Permit from the State of Louisiana. As part of National Teen Driver Safety Week, Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint during the daytime hours of Wednesday, October 18, 2017, in Lafourche Parish. During the checkpoint, deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as for proper inspection tags and insurance.
National Teen Driver Safety Week begins Sunday, October 15 and continues through Saturday, October 21. This week and every week, parents should have conversations with their teens about the important rules they need to follow to stay safe behind the wheel of a passenger car, truck, or SUV. These rules address the greatest dangers for teen drivers: texting while driving, driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol, inconsistent or no seat belt use, distracted and drowsy driving, speeding, and number of passengers.
Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens (15 to 18 years old) in the United States – ahead of all other types of injury, disease, or violence. There were 1,972 teen drivers of passenger vehicles involved in fatal motor vehicle traffic crashes in 2015. An estimated 99,000 teen passenger vehicle drivers were injured in motor vehicle traffic crashes.
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a FREE Hunter Education Classroom Course and a Hunter Education Field Day in October for anyone ages 10 or older.
CLASSROOM COURSE:
The traditional “Classroom Course” is a two-day course covering topics such as hunter responsibility and ethics, how firearms work and firearms safety, survival and first aid skills, firearm handling skills and hunting techniques, wildlife identification, game care, and information related to wildlife conservation and management. The next Classroom Course will be offered Saturday, October 28 through Sunday, October 29, 2017. The first day will be the classroom portion from 8am to 5pm at the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Complex, located at 1300 Lynn Street in Thibodaux. The class will resume the following day from 8am to 11am at the LPSO Shooting Range located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland. Participants must attend BOTH days of the class and pass a written and practical exam to be certified. Class size is limited. Advance registration is required. CLICK HERE to register for this course.
FIELD DAY:
As an alternative to the two-day course, a Home Study Course is available online through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website. Those who complete the home study course MUST take their completion voucher to a “Field Day” to complete their hunter education. The next Field Day will be offered on Wednesday, October 25, 2017, from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the LPSO Shooting Range. Entry to the Field Day will be denied unless the completed forms are presented. There will be a written test required to complete the Field Day. Class size is limited. *Anyone born after September 1, 1969, who wishes to obtain a hunting license in Louisiana, must successfully complete a hunter education course. Exceptions may be granted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for active or veteran members of the United States armed services, for any P.O.S.T.-certified law enforcement officer, or for persons who are under the direct supervision of a person 18-years or older who is already licensed and has taken the approved course. Exceptions must be applied for and approved by Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
Sheriff Craig Webre announced that late in the evening of October 7th, officers were called to respond to a battery which had just occurred in Raceland. Upon arrival, officers learned that that Michael Ledet (age 34) had entered the home of the elderly victims, knocking down a door and demanding that they turn over the keys to their vehicle. An altercation ensued with Ledet repeatedly striking the victims leaving them both with lacerations and bruises. After the struggle, Ledet was given the keys to the vehicle and he departed the residence.
Ledet was later located driving the vehicle on Highway 316 in Gray. A traffic stop was attempted however Ledet refused to comply and a pursuit followed wherein Ledet continued to evade officers driving eastbound on Highway 90. The chase continued as Ledet turned South on La Highway 1 continuing into Lockport where he weaved his way through several streets eventually turning back onto LA Highway 1 heading North. Ledet was clocked at speeds in excess of 100 MPH. During the course of the chase, Ledet swerved off the roadway on three separate occasions nearly striking four law enforcement officers. Ledet’s vehicle was eventually stopped by the use of spike strips in the Raceland area and he was taken into custody.
Ledet has been charged with Second Degree Battery, Simple Battery of the Infirmed, 4 counts of Aggravated Assault upon a Peace Officer, Aggravated Flight from and Officer, Theft, Operating a vehicle with a Suspended License, Theft of a Motor Vehicle and Violation of a Stop Sign. His bond has been set at $112,100.00 and he remains at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center.
Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint during the daytime hours of Wednesday, October 11, 2017, in Lafourche Parish. During the checkpoint, deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as for proper inspection tags and insurance. These weekly checkpoints are designed to help raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Oscar Redondo (age 51) of Raceland for a third offense DWI. At around 9:25 p.m. on Wednesday, October 4, deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle for failing to stop at a red light at the intersection of LA 1 and LA 182 in Raceland. Deputies made contact with the driver, and immediately detected a strong odor of alcohol coming from inside the vehicle. The driver, identified as Oscar Redondo, was also exhibiting signs of possible intoxication. Redondo admitted to having consumed several alcoholic beverages that evening. Redondo performed poorly on a field sobriety test. A breathalyzer test showed him to have a blood alcohol content of .176g%. Deputies learned Redondo was previously charged with DWI in 2011 and 2012, and he did not have a valid driver’s license. Redondo was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was booked with DWI (3rd Offense), no driver’s license, and failure to stop at a red light. His bond is set at $25,600.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced three people have been arrested in connection to an early morning armed robbery in Bayou Blue. Troy Rogers (age 23) of Dulac, Brooke Adams (age 18) of Houma, and Paige Knight (age 27) of Theriot, all face charges in the incident.
At around 4:10 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, deputies responded to the Bayou Blue area in reference an armed robbery. Upon arrival, deputies made contact with the female victim. The victim was reportedly standing in front of a residence on Lacroix Drive when a car pulled up. A man and two women, later identified as Rogers, Adams, and Knight, exited the vehicle and began beating on the victim. Rogers had a firearm, and the trio robbed the woman of cash and fled the area.
After identifying Rogers, Adams, and Knight as the suspects, deputies with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office located the suspects and detained them for questioning. Following questioning, detectives obtained warrants for the three individuals for the robbery.
Rogers, Adams, and Knight were all arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Each was charged with Armed Robbery. Rogers was additionally booked on an outstanding warrant for Contempt of Court. Rogers’ bond is set at $100,100. The bonds on Adams on Knight were set at $100,000 each.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Andy Domangue (age 36) of Lockport after he burglarized a vehicle during a church service.
At around 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, September 24, deputies responded to St. Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church in Raceland in reference to a vehicle burglary which apparently occurred during a church service. The victims had left the vehicle unlocked, and a several items were stolen.
Through investigation, deputies tracked the stolen items to a store in Terrebonne Parish, and Andy Domangue was developed as a suspect in the burglary. On Monday, October 2, deputies located Domangue, and he was arrested on a warrant for Contempt of Court. At that time, Domangue was questioned in reference to the vehicle burglary, and he admitted to being a willing participant in the crime. He was subsequently charged with Simple Burglary of a Motor Vehicle.
Domangue was booked on the aforementioned charges into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He is being held in lieu of $22,500 bond, and he is also being held for Terrebonne Parish due to an outstanding warrant for theft.
