Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced detectives are currently on scene investigating the death of a man whose body was found on Burma Road in Thibodaux early Tuesday morning. The man’s death is being investigated as a suspected homicide.
Currently, Burma Road is CLOSED in both directions in the 1400 block. Local traffic must detour around this area.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced an arrest has been made in connection to the shooting death of a Thibodaux man early Friday morning. Louis Foret, 29, of Morgan City is charged with Second Degree Murder in the death of 38-year-old Chance Benoit of Thibodaux.
At 1:10 a.m. on February 19, 2021, deputies responded a report of gunshots being heard in the area of West Camelia Drive in Thibodaux, and officers from the Thibodaux Police Department also responded to assist. They arrived at a residence in the 2500 block and discovered an adult male with apparent gunshot wounds. The victim, later identified as Benoit, was pronounced dead.
Through investigation, detectives learned Foret was at Benoit’s residence when they began fighting. Foret eventually walked out of the residence and the two continued a verbal altercation as Benoit stood in his doorway. Foret then brandished a gun and allegedly fired several rounds at Benoit. He also walked up to Benoit and fired shots at close range before leaving the residence.
Detectives made contact with Foret on Friday afternoon and brought him in to the Criminal Operations Center in Lockport for questioning. While at the facility, Foret attempted to escape from custody, but was quickly apprehended.
Foret was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux. He is charged with Second Degree Murder and Simple Escape. Bail is set at $550,000.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced two Raceland men have been arrested after they were found trespassing and stealing scrap metal in Raceland on Thursday. Torrey Barlow Sr., 42, and David Barlow Jr., 37, each face charges in the investigation.
At around 1:30 p.m. on February 18, 2021, patrol deputies located the Barlows in a wooded area just off U.S. Highway 90 in Raceland. Through investigation, deputies learned the Barlows had allegedly stolen scrap metal from private property in that area. David Barlow Jr. was also found to have methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, and a rifle in his possession. Both men were arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux.
David Barlow Jr. had been the suspect in another trespassing incident in Raceland, and he was charged in that investigation as well. In all, he was charged with two counts of Criminal Trespassing, Felony Theft, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Methamphetamine, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. He was released after posting $30,800 bail.
Meanwhile, Torrey Barlow Sr. was charged with Criminal Trespassing and Felony Theft for Thursday’s incident. He remains at the Correctional Complex, and bail is set at $10,500.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a man and two teenagers have been charged in connection with an armed robbery in Galliano on Tuesday. A 17-year-old male faces numerous charges including armed robbery and attempted murder. Bryce Cheramie, 22, of Larose and a 16-year-old male are also charged with Armed Robbery in the incident.
Through investigation, detectives learned the three had arranged to meet an 18-year-old male at a Galliano residence on February 16, 2021, with the intention of robbing him. The three were present when the 18-year-old arrived, and he remained in his truck. One of the teens tried to force his way into the truck, but the driver began to drive away. As he did, several rounds were fired, some of which struck the truck. Through investigation, detectives developed Cheramie and the two teens as suspects in the incident.
Both teens were taken into custody and placed at the Juvenile Justice Facility in Thibodaux. The 16-year-old was charged with Armed Robbery. The 17-year-old, who investigators identified as the suspected shooter, was found to have two stolen firearms in his possession, as well as several large bags of marijuana and other products containing marijuana. He was charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder, Armed Robbery, two counts of Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Possession of a Firearm in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana. He was additionally charged with Aggravated Burglary stemming from a separate incident in November.
Deputies made contact with Cheramie on February 17, 2021. He was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex on the charge of Armed Robbery. He was also booked on outstanding warrants for Contempt of Court for the 17th Judicial District and the Town of Golden Meadow. Bail for the 17th Judicial District charges is set at $55,000, and he is also being held on a cash bond of $422.50 for the contempt charge in Golden Meadow.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced a Concealed Handgun Training Course will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at the LPSO Shooting Range Facility located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland. The class will begin at 8:00 a.m. and last until approximately 5:00 p.m. with a break for lunch. The actual ending time will vary due to class size.
The course will include the following:
One hour of instruction on handgun nomenclature and safe handling procedures of a revolver and semi-automatic pistol.
One hour of instruction on ammunition knowledge and fundamentals of pistol shooting.
Three hours of instruction on the use of deadly force and conflict resolution. (Includes a review of R.S. 14:18 through 14:22 and which may include a review of any other laws relating to the use of deadly force)
One hour of instruction on handgun shooting positions.
One hour of instruction on child access prevention.
Two hours of actual live range fire and proper handgun cleaning procedures. Live range fire shall include 12 rounds each at 5 feet, 10 feet, and 15 feet for a total of 36 rounds.
Must perform at least one safe reload of the handgun at each distance.
Must score 100% hits within the silhouette portion of an NRA B-27 type silhouette target with 36 rounds.
Participants will need to bring a handgun in good working condition, 50 rounds of ammunition for that handgun, eye protection (sunglasses or eyeglasses are sufficient), and ear protection (muffs or plugs). All individuals must wear a mask or face covering while in the classroom or the range office. Masks or face coverings are not required on the pistol ranges for those adhering to proper physical distancing.
The cost for the course is $110, and a special rate of $55 is offered for seniors (ages 60+). Online registration is required in advance due to limited class size. Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre and Golden Meadow Chief of Police Troy Dufrene announced that two teens face numerous charges each in connection with dozens of vehicle burglaries in the South Lafourche area. Dakota Friloux, 19, of Larose faces over 150 charges while the male teenage juvenile faces 87 counts of burglary and attempted burglary.
As previously released, deputies investigated a series of vehicle burglaries and attempted burglaries in the Larose area in January 2021. Additional vehicle burglaries were reported in Cut Off on February 4, 2021. Two days later, on February 6, additional burglaries were reported in the Town of Golden Meadow, as well as some areas just outside the town limits. Two firearms were stolen as well as primarily small amounts of cash and loose change. Through investigation, investigators developed Friloux and the juvenile as suspects. On Monday, February 8, detectives contacted the suspects and recovered the two stolen firearms. Friloux admitted to his involvement, and he was booked on a handful of initial charges. The juvenile was also charged and placed at the Juvenile Justice Complex in Thibodaux. They each remain in custody.
Investigators with the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and Golden Meadow Police Department obtained warrants for each individual crime. In all, Friloux and the juvenile were each charged with 76 counts of Simple Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and 11 counts of Attempted Burglary. Friloux was additionally charged with 63 counts of Contributing to the Delinquency of a Juvenile and one count of Possession of Marijuana. Friloux’s bail is now set at $885,300.
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a 19-year-old male has been arrested in connection to a burglary at a church in Bayou Blue last week. Michael Flores, 19, of Bayou Blue was charged with burglary in the incident.
On February 5, 2021, deputies responded to a reported burglary at a church in Bayou Blue. Several items of value were taken valued at several thousand dollars. Through investigation, Flores was developed as a suspect in the case.
On Tuesday, February 9, detectives made contact with Flores. During questioning, he admitted to stealing the items. Detectives were able to recover all the stolen property which had been taken from the church.
Flores was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux. He was charged with Simple Burglary. Bail is set at $5,000.
The investigation is continuing, and further charges are pending.

On January 24, 2021, deputies investigated a series of vehicle burglaries and attempted burglaries in the Larose area, which included vehicles on Buchannan Street, Chester Lee Street, and Gemini Street. Then, on February 4, 2021, deputies responded to more vehicle burglaries in the Cut Off area, including residents from East 85th Street to East 90th Street, as well as the area of West 123rd Street and West 124th Street. Two days later, on February 6, additional burglaries were reported in the Town of Golden Meadow, as well as some areas just outside the town limits. Small amounts of cash and loose change were primarily taken, but two firearms were also stolen.
Through investigation, detectives obtained video and images of the unknown subjects committing burglaries and attempted burglaries Those were released to the public in an effort to identify those involved. Investigators received numerous anonymous tips and developed Friloux and the juvenile as suspects in the investigation.
On Monday, February 8, detectives contacted the suspects and recovered the two stolen firearms. During questioning, Friloux admitted to his involvement. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux. He is currently booked on three counts of Simple Burglary of a Motor Vehicle (one for each series of burglaries) and one count of Encouraging Child Delinquency. The juvenile was also charged accordingly and placed at the Juvenile Justice Complex in Thibodaux.
Additional charges are pending as investigators are working on additional warrants for dozens of counts of burglary and attempted burglary involved. Additional information will be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

On February 4, 2021, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office received reports of multiple vehicle burglaries in Cut Off in the areas of East 85th Street to East 90th Street, as well as the area of West 123rd Street and West 124th Street. Through investigation, detectives determined several unknown subjects, all wearing hooded sweatshirts, were dropped off in the area by a dark-colored pickup truck. In all, detectives investigated more than 26 cases, some involving more than one burglarized vehicle. Burglaries occurred only in cases where vehicles had been left unlocked, while the attempted burglaries occurred when the burglars moved on after finding a locked vehicle. Among the stolen items were cash, wallets, debit/credit cards, and one pistol. Residential security cameras captured images of the subjects.

Sheriff Webre reminds residents to always remove valuables and lock unattended vehicles, especially overnight. “When vehicle burglaries occur here, they typically do so late at night or during early morning hours and almost always involve unlocked vehicles,” said Sheriff Webre. “That’s why it’s not uncommon to see strings of burglaries in one night because criminals are only looking for easy targets. We will certainly continue to do our job of patrolling the neighborhoods, but we are asking for citizens help to protect themselves by simply locking their unattended vehicles.”
Citizens are encouraged to develop a nightly routine, commonly referred to as the “9 p.m. Routine.” Through this national awareness campaign, the “9 p.m. Routine” encourages citizens to remove valuables from their vehicles, lock their vehicles, and lock their home at or before 9 p.m. each night before going to bed.
