Four Charged with Driving While Intoxicated on Friday and Saturday

Sheriff Craig Webre announced four individuals were charged with driving while intoxicated in separate incidents on Friday and Saturday, December 16 and 17. Jose Rodriguez (age 56) of Raceland, Michael Allen (age 22) and Gail Jackson (age 45) of Thibodaux, and Jonathan Abarca (age 33) of Washington, all face DWI charges. Jekeisha Westley (age 20) of Thibodaux was also arrested in relation to one of the incidents.

The first incident occurred around 2:15 a.m. on Friday, December 16 as deputies initiated a traffic stop on a driver identified as Jose Rodriguez after he made an illegal U-turn on LA Highway 1 in Lockport. Rodriguez did not have a driver’s license, and he admitted to having several alcoholic beverages at a local bar. He submitted to a field sobriety test on which he performed poorly. He then submitted to a breathalyzer test which showed him to have a blood alcohol content of 0.171g%. Deputies found he had previously been convicted of two DWI offenses. He was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked with DWI (3rd offense), improper lane usage and no driver’s license. His bond is set at $50,200, and he is also being held for the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

The next incident occurred around 12:15 a.m. on Saturday, December 17 when deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a driver for speeding along LA Highway 182 in Raceland. The driver of the vehicle, later identified as Michael Allen, refused to stop, ignoring the deputies’ emergency lights and sirens, and continued along LA Highway 182 eventually turning northbound onto LA 1. Allen committed multiple violations while attempting to evade deputies, and he eventually stopped his vehicle at an apartment complex on Plantation Road in Thibodaux where he exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Deputies pursued Allen and took him into custody despite him resisting violently. Deputies also identified Jekeisha Westley as a passenger in the vehicle and discovered suspected marijuana and oxycodone inside the vehicle. Westley was arrested and transported to the Detention Center where she was booked with Possession of Marijuana and Oxycodone, and her bond is set at $2,600. Meanwhile, Allen performed poorly on a field sobriety test, and a breathalyzer test showed his blood alcohol content to be 0.000g%. Due to suspected use of illegal narcotics, a urinalysis was conducted and the results are pending at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab. He was also transported to the Detention Center where he was booked with DWI (1st Offense), Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Resisting an Officer with Force or Violence, Speeding, and Possession of Marijuana and Oxycodone. His bond is set at $71,100.

At around 8:25 p.m. on Saturday night, while deputies were conducting a DWI checkpoint on Canal Boulevard in Thibodaux along with Thibodaux Police and Louisiana State Police, a driver, identified as Gail Jackson, passed through the checkpoint with an alcoholic beverage inside the vehicle, and she admitted to consuming other alcoholic beverages prior to that one. Jackson performed poorly on a field sobriety test, and she submitted to a breathalyzer test which showed her blood alcohol content to be 0.269g%. She was issued a criminal summons for DWI (1st Offense) and Possession of an Alcoholic Beverage in a Motor Vehicle.

Finally, at 11:40 p.m. Saturday night, deputies responded to the U.S. Highway 90 on-ramp just off LA 182 in Raceland in reference to a stationary vehicle in the roadway. Deputies found the driver, identified as Jonathan Abarca, to be asleep behind the wheel. Abarca performed poorly on a field sobriety test and a breathalyzer test showed him to have a blood alcohol content of 0.093g%. He was arrested and transported to the Detention Center where he was booked with DWI (1st Offense) and Obstructing Public Passages. He was released Sunday morning after posting $500 bond.

NOTE: Due to technical issues, mug shots for Allen and Abarca are not available. Because Jackson was issued a criminal summons in lieu of arrest, no mug shot was taken.
