Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced one person has died and two others are injured in three separate shooting incidents that occurred over the span of about 14 hours. No arrests have been made, and investigators say the incidents are not related.
Deputies received a call of an accidental shooting on Bayou Folse Road in Raceland at around 4 p.m. on November 29, 2025. Garret Verdun, 45, of Raceland was hunting with a friend when a rifle discharged while the two were handling it. Verdun was struck in the head and died as a result of the injury. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is assisting with the ongoing investigation, and all parties are cooperating with detectives.
Five hours later, deputies responded to another incident Headland Drive in Thibodaux. A man in his 20s was struck in the leg by a single round. He was treated at a local hospital and released. Based on evidence at the scene, detectives believe a domestic incident occurred at a residence in the 100 block of Headland Drive. This investigation is continuing.
Then, at 5:35 on Sunday, November 30, deputies responded to another shooting incident on West 72nd Street in Cut Off. A resident of the street reported that a man was trespassing, acting erratically, and threw a metal object toward the resident. The resident then fired a single round at the man who was struck in the arm. The man who was shot is in his 30s. He was transported to a local hospital before being airlifted to University Medical Center in New Orleans for treatment. This incident also remains under investigation.
