Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is asking for the public’s help in locating 15-year-old Krissa Flores of Cut Off. Flores reportedly left from her grandfather’s residence on East 2nd Street in Larose at some point overnight. She is described as 5 feet tall weighing approximately 120 pounds. Flores has brown hair and brown eyes. She was reportedly last seen in the Galliano area with friends. Anyone with information on Flores’ whereabouts is asked to call the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 532-2808, or simply call 9-1-1.

Detectives Investigating Burglary at Cut Off Lumber Company

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible for a burglary at a lumber company in Cut Off.

On the morning of February 6, 2018, deputies and detectives responded to Dufrene Building Materials at 14502 West Main Street in Cut Off in reference to an overnight burglary. Investigators determined entry was made into an office on the property. Several items were stolen including tools, communication devices, and computers which were collectively valued at several thousand dollars. Surveillance cameras captured an unknown white male subject on video during the crime.

Deputies Find Cocaine, Crack Cocaine, and Marijuana During Traffic Stop

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Carl Shelvin (age 23) of Gray on Monday, February 12. Just after 5:30 p.m. on Monday, deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle traveling on Bayou Blue Bypass Road in Bayou Blue. Deputies made contact with the driver and two passengers. The rear seat passenger initially gave a false name, but he was later identified as Carl Shelvin. He was found to have over 117 grams of marijuana, nearly 28 grams of crack cocaine, approximately 4 grams of cocaine, a handgun, and drug paraphernalia in his possession. Shelvin was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on charges including Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine , Crack Cocaine, and Marijuana, as well as Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Resisting an Officer. His bond is set at $137,000.

Larose Woman Charged with Fourth DWI

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Dana Bouzigard (age 48) of Larose for her fourth DWI offense. Just after 11:15 p.m. on Tuesday, February 13, deputies traveling along LA Highway 308 in Larose observed a truck traveling across the center line. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, identified as Dana Bouzigard. While speaking to Bouzigard, deputies detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage on her breath. Bouzigard submitted to a field sobriety test on which she performed poorly. A breathalyzer test showed her to have a blood alcohol content of .087g%. She was arrested and charged with DWI (4th Offense) and improper lane usage. She was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Her bond is set at $50,100.

Rape Aggression Defense Course for Women Slated for March in Cut Off

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) course on March 12, 13, and 14, 2018, at The Learning Center at Lady of the Sea Hospital, located at 200 West 134th Place in Cut Off.

This self-defense course is designed exclusively for women and will take place over the course of all three days. The class will begin at 6 p.m. and end around 9 p.m. each day. Participants must attend all three days. Course instruction will be provided by certified R.A.D. instructors from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office.

The cost of the course is $10 to cover the cost of course materials. Class size is limited, and advance registration is required. You can register online here: www.LPSO.net/RADsignup. Payment cannot be made through the online sign-up form, but the fee must be pre-paid and is non-refundable. Raceland Man Sought for Attempted Murder in Friday Shooting Incident

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a Raceland man is being sought in connection to a shooting which occurred on Friday afternoon. A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Johnny Poindexter (age 34) for charges which include attempted murder.

Just after 4 p.m. on Friday, February 9, 2018, deputies responded to Brocato Lane in Raceland in reference to a man who was shot in the leg. Through investigation, investigators learned the victim was involved in a verbal altercation with a man, later identified as Johnny Poindexter, who accused the victim of nearly striking him while backing up his truck. During the argument, Poindexter pointed a handgun at the victim. The victim attempted to reach for the gun, but Poindexter backed away from the man and allegedly fired one round which struck the victim in the knee. The victim was transported to University Hospital in New Orleans for treatment, and was subsequently released on Saturday, February 10.

During the investigation, Poindexter was developed as the suspect. Deputies were unable to locate Poindexter at that time, and detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest.

Bayou Blue Man Arrested for Sending Nude Photos to Teenager

Lafourche Parish Sheriff announced the arrest of Rex Jernigan Jr. (age 35) of Bayou Blue on Monday. On Friday, February 2, juvenile detectives opened an investigation after learning an adult male had allegedly sent nude photos of himself to a teenage juvenile female. Investigators identified the male subject in the photos as Rex Jernigan Jr., and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Detectives made contact with Jernigan on Monday, February 5, and he was taken into custody. He was booked with Indecent Behavior with a Juvenile. He was released on Tuesday, February 6 after posting $25,000 bond.

2018 LSA Scholarship Applications Now Available

Sheriff Craig Webre has announced applications are now being accepted for the Louisiana Sheriffs Association annual scholarship. All eligible students in Lafourche Parish are encouraged to apply.

The $500 scholarship will be awarded to a graduating high school student who attends Nicholls State University, L.E. Fletcher Technical Community College, or South Central Louisiana Technical College. An applicant must be a permanent resident of Lafourche Parish and must be eligible for admission to the school indicated on the application. The award will only be paid for attendance at one of the aforementioned qualifying institutions as a full-time, undergraduate student. The scholarship is awarded as a gift, not a loan, is awarded to defray the rising costs of tuition and related expenses in higher education. There are no restrictions on the purposes for which the scholarship is spent.

Because the deadline falls on Easter weekend, all applications must be received by the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office no later than Thursday, March 29, 2018. An independent selection committee will review the applications and select a winner to be announced in May. There are no restrictions on applicants by reason of race, creed, color, age or national origin, and family members of Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office employees are also eligible to apply.

The Louisiana Sheriffs’ Scholarship Program awards scholarships in all 64 parishes, providing assistance to worthy Louisiana students in furthering their education and training with resources made available through the Louisiana Sheriffs’ Honorary Membership Program.

Detectives Searching for Suspect in Weekend Burglary in Gray

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for a burglary which occurred early Saturday morning in Gray.

At around 5:15 a.m. on Saturday, February 3, deputies responded to a burglary alarm at the Dollar General store located at 3410 Bayou Blue Road. Upon arrival, deputies observed forced entry had been made through the front door of the business. Deputies had reason to believe the suspect was possibly still on scene, and they set up perimeter around the business. The Lafourche Parish Interagency Crisis Management Unit responded to the scene. The unit made entry into the front of the store attempting to locate the subject, but the suspect was no longer inside.

Detectives are continuing the investigation into this crime.
