UPDATE: Two Charged with Attempted Murder in Tuesday Shooting

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced two people have been charged with attempted murder in a shooting that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the Marydale community in Thibodaux. Deondre Holmes (age 23) and Jovonta Johnson (age 24), both of Thibodaux, have been arrested in connection with the incident.

At around 4:40 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, deputies responded to a reported shooting in the Marydale community in Thibodaux. Upon arrival, deputies discovered several spent bullet casings on Carol Street, and they discovered an abandoned gray sedan with bullet holes and shattered glass on Plymouth Street. They also learned a second vehicle, a white sedan, involved in the incident had arrived at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center with a gunshot victim.

Through investigation, detectives learned a man and his sister were sitting in the gray sedan parked in the 400 block of Carol Street. Holmes and Johnson, traveling in a white sedan, approached from the rear. Shots were reportedly fired by occupants of both vehicles. One of the rounds struck the woman in the right thigh, and one round struck Johnson in the head. Neither injury is considered life-threatening. The female victim drove the gray sedan to Plymouth Street, and she was then transported to the hospital. Investigators made contact with Holmes and Johnson at the hospital. Following questioning, detectives were able to obtain arrest warrants for both.

Holmes and Johnson were arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Each was charged with Attempted Second Degree Murder, and bond is set at $150,000 each. Both are also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole.

Victim in Critical Condition Following Second Shooting in Marydale

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a 19-year-old female is in critical condition following a shooting on Park Avenue in Thibodaux late Tuesday night. This was the second shooting incident in the Marydale community on Tuesday, and the third shooting in seven days.

At around 10:35 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31, deputies responded to Park Avenue in Thibodaux in reference to a shooting. Upon arrival, deputies discovered a 19-year-old female sitting in the passenger seat of an SUV. She was bleeding from a wound on her head and was unresponsive. She was initially transported to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center for treatment, and she was later transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital in Baton Rouge. She remains in critical condition.

The investigation into this incident is continuing. UPDATE: Two Injured in Shooting in Marydale Community

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced two people have been injured in a shooting which occurred in the Marydale community in Thibodaux on Tuesday afternoon. The injuries are reportedly not life-threatening.

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call about the shooting at around 4:40 p.m., and deputies responded to the scene. Deputies discovered a gray sedan with bullet holes and shattered glass. They also learned a second vehicle, a white car, involved in the incident had arrived at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center.

Through investigation, detectives have learned that the injured parties were passengers in the vehicles. They are being detained for questioning in reference to the incident. The driver of one of the vehicles has also been detained for questioning. Investigators are attempting to locate the second driver for questioning.

The investigation into this incident is continuing.

Thibodaux Brothers Charged in Weekend House Burglary

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Austin Tardo (age 21) and Mark Tardo (age 23), both of Thibodaux. On Sunday evening, October 29, deputies responded to a residence in the 400 block of Rue De Cypress in Thibodaux in reference to a burglary. Deputies found the rear door to the residence was forced open, and they learned jewelry, two firearms, and several tools had been stolen. Through investigation, detectives obtained a description of two suspects and a suspect vehicle, and developed Mark and Austin Tardo as the suspects. Patrol deputies then made contact with the Tardos on Bobcat Lane in Thibodaux, and they were found to have stolen property from the burglary in their possession, as well as a drug only available by prescription and drug paraphernalia. The Tardos were both charged with Simple Burglary, Possession of a Legend Drug without a Prescription, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Austin Tardo’s bond is set at $55,500. Mark Tardo was additionally booked on an outstanding warrant for Contempt of Court for Thibodaux City Court, and his bond is set at $56,500.

Four Texas Men Charged with 13 Counts of Identity Theft in Ongoing Investigation

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced four Texas men were arrested after detectives found 13 different identification cards in their possession. Isaac Gonzales (age 33) and Christopher Nunez (age 31), both of Pasadena, John W. Johnson (age 66) of Cameron, and his son, John F. Johnson (age 43) of Houston, all face charges as part of an ongoing investigation.

In March 2017, detectives began investigating a forgery complaint at a marine transportation company in South Lafourche. Over $20,000 of fraudulent checks had been used. Through investigation into the cashing of these counterfeit checks, detectives developed a red sedan as the suspect vehicle used to cash the checks. Investigators learned the vehicle was registered to John W. Johnson of Texas.

On the morning of Friday, October 27, deputies discovered the red sedan traveling in Lafourche Parish and conducted a traffic stop. The vehicle owner, Johnson, was discovered to be a passenger in the vehicle with his son, John F. Johnson, driving. Gonzales and Nunez were also found to be passengers in the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, investigators found 13 different forms of identity which did not belong to the vehicle occupants. During questioning, none of the four individuals cooperated in the investigation.

All four were charged with 13 counts of Identity Theft. Bonds for the Johnsons and Gonzales are set at $250,000 each. Nunez was additionally charged with Contempt of Court, and his bond is set at $250,200.

Additional charges are expected as investigators also discovered additional evidence inside the vehicle, and as detectives continue their investigation into the March 2017 forgery incident.

Three Men Arrested for Storage Facility Burglaries in Lockport

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre and Lockport Chief of Police David Harrelson announced the arrest of three men for several burglaries at a self-storage facility and a theft at a Lockport residence. Jessie Lemaire (age 34), Jason Landry Sr. (age 48), and his son, Jason Landry Jr. (age 25), all of Lockport, each face charges in the cases.

On Monday, October 23, deputies responded to a complaint at a self-storage facility in Lockport. Upon arrival, deputies learned locks to several storage units had been cut. Later in the week, the self-storage facility owners reported two more instances where locks had been cut. Through investigation, deputies developed Jessie Lemaire, Jason Landry Sr., and Jason Landry Jr. as suspects in the case.

On Saturday, October 28, deputies made contact with the three individuals, and they were questioned in reference to the case. Investigators learned Lemaire and Jason Landry Sr. went to the storage facility on two occasions that week, with Jason Landry Jr. going with them on a third trip. Each time, the men were involved in burglarizing several storage units, and detectives located stolen property at Landry’s residence.

Meanwhile, Lockport Police officers had responded to a theft complaint earlier that day in which Jason Landry Sr. and Jr. were suspected of having stolen power tools from a Lockport resident. The stolen tools were located in the vehicle Jason Landry Sr. was driving.

All three men were arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. Jason Landry Sr. was booked on 21 counts of Simple Burglary and one count of Theft, and his bond is set at $75,000. Jason Landry Jr. was booked on 15 counts of Simple Burglary and one count of Theft, and his bond is set at $50,000. Jessie Lemaire was booked on 21 counts of Simple Burglary, and his bond is set at $50,000.

Seat Belt Checkpoint Slated for Thursday, November 2

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint during the daytime hours of Thursday, November 2, 2017, in Lafourche Parish. During the checkpoint, deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as for proper inspection tags and insurance. These weekly checkpoints are designed to help raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.

Detectives Investigating Shooting in Thibodaux Area

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced detectives are investigating a shooting that occurred in the Thibodaux area on Wednesday afternoon.

At around 5:45 p.m. on Wednesday, October 25, deputies responded to the intersection of Ridgefield Road and Carol Street in Thibodaux in reference to possible gunshots in the area, and a vehicle, possibly a white SUV, had fled the area at a high rate of speed. Deputies made contact with a witness who reportedly heard multiple gunshots and saw several men running away from the area. During a search of the area, deputies discovered bullet holes on the back side of a residence.

Detectives with the Thibodaux Police Department responded to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center after learning a man was being treated for a gunshot wound to the hand. Through investigation, detectives learned the victim was shot in the area of Ridgefield Road and Carol Street.

UPDATE: Additional Charge for Man Who Shot at Deputies During Pursuit

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a Cut Off felon arrested last week after shooting at deputies during a pursuit now faces an additional charge. Daniel Borne (age 39) has been booked with Theft of a Firearm after detectives learned he allegedly stole the firearm used in the incident.

As previously released, warrants were issued for Borne’s arrest after he missed the start of a jury trial on Tuesday, October 17. Borne was then facing charges which included burglary, theft, DWI, drug possession, and traffic violations. On Tuesday afternoon, deputies were on East 58thStreet investigating a case wherein Borne had allegedly stolen a truck, and deputies later learned he had also stolen a motorcycle from another resident. While on scene, Borne returned to East 58th Street, and he refused to stop when deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop. He then led deputies on a pursuit which began along LA Highway 308 toward Larose and continued on LA Highway 3235 from Larose to Galliano. During the pursuit, Borne fired multiple rounds at pursuing deputies while holding a passenger in the vehicle against his will. Borne eventually ran out of gas and attempted to flee on foot, but deputies surrounded him and took him into custody without further incident. Detectives later discovered several bullet holes in the tailgate area of the stolen truck Borne was driving, as well as a business on West Main Street in Galliano.

The following day, October 18, another Cut Off resident reported a gun had been recently stolen from his residence. Detectives developed Borne as a suspect in the theft and found that the serial number of the stolen gun matched the serial number of the gun recovered at the scene the previous day.

Following the initial incident, Borne was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux on four counts of Attempted First Degree Murder of a Peace Officer, Aggravated Flight from an Officer, Aggravated Kidnapping, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Illegal Use of Weapons, two counts of Theft of a Motor Vehicle, and eight counts of Contempt of Court. He is now additionally charged with Theft of a Firearm, and his total bond is now set at $3,435,000.
