Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint during the daytime hours of Thursday, April 20 in Lafourche Parish. During the checkpoint, deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as for proper inspection tags and insurance. These checkpoints are designed to help raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.
Larose Man Arrested for Arson of Golden Meadow Residences
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Jake Savoie (age 26) of Larose for setting a residence on fire in Golden Meadow which resulted in two other damaged homes. Just before 6 a.m. on Friday, April 14, deputies responded to a house fire at a residence on LA Highway 1 just south of the Town of Golden Meadow limit. Firefighters also responded and extinguished the fire, but two residences were total losses, and a third neighboring residence was damaged. There were no injuries as a result of the fire, but two of the structures were reported as total losses. Through investigation, deputies learned Jake Savoie was at the scene prior to the start of the fire. Deputies made contact with Savoie and questioned him about the incident. After changing his story several times, Savoie eventually confessed to starting the fire by using a disposable lighter. Deputies were unable to determine a motive. Savoie was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with Aggravated Arson of an Inhabited Dwelling and two counts of Simple Arson. He was released on Saturday night after posting $15,000 bond.

New Orleans Man Arrested for Third DWI Offense
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Jarin Matuyo (age 33) of New Orleans on Sunday, April 16. At around 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, deputies responded to LA Highway 308 in Raceland in reference to a vehicle driving slowly in the middle of the roadway. Deputies discovered the vehicle traveling over the center line and initiated a traffic stop. Deputies made contact with the driver who initially gave a false name. He was later identified as Jarin Matuyo, and deputies learned he had three active warrants for his arrest. Due to Matuyo exhibiting signs of possible intoxication, deputies attempted to conduct a field sobriety test, but Matuyo refused to cooperate. He later was subjected to a breathalyzer test which showed him to have a blood alcohol level of 0.229g%. Matuyo was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked with DWI (3rd Offense), Resisting an Officer, no driver’s license, and improper lane usage. He was also booked on three outstanding warrants for Contempt of Court. His bond is set at $11,900.

Suspect Sought for Property Damage at Raceland Pharmacy
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced detectives are investigating an incident that occurred at Raceland Pharmacy Express on Monday, April 10. Detectives obtained surveillance video which shows a white male subject ride up to the side of the building on a mountain bike. The subject then tampered with the air conditioning unit before fleeing. In doing so, the subject damaged the air conditioning unit. The incident occurred at around 10:25 p.m. on Monday. The suspect is a white male of medium build, and he was wearing a dark-colored t-shirt and shorts. Anyone who can identify the suspect in the video is asked to submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers Bayou Region by phone at 1-800-743-7433 or online at www.crimestoppersbr.org. Tips can also be submitted using the P3 Tips app on your mobile device. Tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 in cash if the information leads to an arrest.
Seat Belt and DWI Checkpoints Scheduled for Thursday
Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint and a DWI checkpoint on Thursday, April 13 in Lafourche Parish. These checkpoints are designed to help raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists. The seat belt checkpoint will be conducted Thursday evening, and deputies will focus on checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations. A DWI checkpoint will begin Thursday evening and will continue into the early morning hours of Friday, April 14. During the DWI checkpoint, deputies will be looking for drivers who are possibly impaired while checking for other traffic safety issues.
Sheriff Webre reminds citizens to designate a driver if you are going to drink. Motorists suspected of DWI who refuse to submit to a breathalyzer test will lose their driver’s license for one year (first offense). For a second offense, the penalty increases to two years. Anyone convicted of a DWI offense while their driver’s license is suspended because of another DWI offense will face automatic prison time. Lafourche Parish is also a “No Refusal” parish, meaning if a suspected drunk driver refuses a breathalyzer test, deputies will seek a search warrant to have that person’s blood tested.
UPDATE: Bayou Blue Woman Contacts Family

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced 25-year-old Kaitlyn Pinell Matherne made contact with a family member on Wednesday, April 12 and is reportedly safe. Matherne was last seen by family members on Friday, March 31 around 11 p.m. in the Meadowland Subdivision in Bayou Blue where she resides. Matherne made contact with a relative via a video chat on Wednesday morning and reported that she is safe.
Concealed Handgun Course Slated for April 29
The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced a Concealed Handgun Training Course will be held on Saturday, April 29 at the LPSO Shooting Range Facility located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland. The class will begin at 8:00 a.m. and last until approximately 5:00 p.m. with a break for lunch. The actual ending time will vary due to class size.
The course will include the following:
- One hour of instruction on handgun nomenclature and safe handling procedures of a revolver and semi-automatic pistol.
- One hour of instruction on ammunition knowledge and fundamentals of pistol shooting.
- Three hours of instruction on the use of deadly force and conflict resolution. (Includes a review of R.S. 14:18 through 14:22 and which may include a review of any other laws relating to the use of deadly force)
- One hour of instruction on handgun shooting positions.
- One hour of instruction on child access prevention.
- Two hours of actual live range fire and proper handgun cleaning procedures. Live range fire shall include 12 rounds each at 5 feet, 10 feet, and 15 feet for a total of 36 rounds.
- Must perform at least one safe reload of the handgun at each distance.
- Must score 100% hits within the silhouette portion of an NRA B-27 type silhouette target with 36 rounds.
The cost for the course is $110, and advance registration is suggested due to limited class size. This course is a pre-requisite for those applying for a Concealed Handgun Permit from the State of Louisiana. MISSING PERSON: Kaitlyn Pinell Matherne

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is asking for the public’s help in locating 25-year-old Kaitlyn Pinell Matherne. Matherne, who is also known as “Katie,” was last seen on Friday, March 31 around 11 p.m. in the Meadowland Subdivision in Bayou Blue where she resides. Matherne is around 5’4” tall and weighs around 110 pounds. She has short to medium length blonde hair. She was last seen wearing a white tank top, black zippered sweatshirt, lime green sweat pants, multi-colored socks, and pink flip-flops. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at (985) 532-4326, or simply dial 9-1-1.
UPDATE: Two Arrested for Attempted Murder in Larose Shooting
Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced two people have been arrested in connection to a shooting which took place in Larose on Tuesday, April 4. Laquindin Randle (age 20) and Travonta Caine (age 21), both of Larose, have been charged with Attempted First Degree Murder in the incident.
At around 12:15 a.m. on Tuesday, April 4, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office received a call in reference to a shooting in the Larose area wherein a bullet grazed a male subject in the head. The victim was airlifted to University Hospital in New Orleans where he was treated and released that same day.
Detectives discovered the male victim was traveling as a passenger in a vehicle driven by a female. As they rode down East 23rd Street in Larose, two male subjects, one of whom was armed with a handgun, approached the vehicle and ordered them to get out. The male and female were then forcefully removed from the vehicle, and one of the male suspects allegedly punched the male victim. The male suspects fled the scene on foot, and one of them allegedly fired two rounds back at the male victim, one of which grazed his head.
Through investigation, detectives developed Laquindin Randle and Travonta Caine as suspects in the incident and obtained arrest warrants. On Saturday, April 8, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives learned of Randle’s whereabouts in St. John the Baptist Parish and worked with deputies there to arrest him. He was transferred to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked per the aforementioned warrant for Attempted First Degree Murder. His bond is set at $100,000.
Then, on Monday, April 10, Caine turned himself over to detectives. He was also arrested for Attempted First Degree Murder, and his bond is also set at $100,000.
The investigation into this matter is ongoing, and detectives say additional charges are possible.
