Sheriff Webre Provides Update on Sixth Ward Middle School Investigation

Sheriff Craig Webre announced one student has been charged in an ongoing investigation into an incident involving students at Sixth Ward Middle School. A male student has been charged with sharing explicit photos of other students created by artificial intelligence.

On August 26, 2025, detectives opened an investigation in conjunction with the school administrative staff after some male students had reportedly shared fake nude photos of female students on a school bus and at school. This led to an altercation on a school bus involving one of the male students and one of the female students. On September 15, 2025, detectives charged one of the male students with ten counts of unlawful dissemination of images created by artificial intelligence (R.S. 14:73.14). The investigation is continuing, and additional arrests/charges are possible.

Sheriff Webre stated, “After the incident was publicized at last week’s meeting of the Lafourche Parish School Board, we have decided to provide an update to this ongoing investigation. These types of investigations, which involve technology and social media platforms, can take many weeks or even months to attain and investigate digital evidence. Our detectives are focused on completing a thorough investigation to ensure accountability of those involved.”

Sheriff Webre stated the female student involved in the altercation on the school bus will not face criminal charges. “Due to the totality of the circumstances, we chose not to pursue charges on the female student,” said Sheriff Webre. “While the ability to alter images has been available for decades, the rise of A.I. has made it easier for anyone to alter or create such images with little to no training or experience. This incident highlights a serious concern that all parents should address with their children.”
