Lafourche Parish Child Support Roundup Nets 20 Arrests

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre and District Attorney Kristine Russell were on hand Thursday morning in Thibodaux as members of multiple agencies fanned out across the area for a roundup of “deadbeat” parents who are behind in their child support payments. Arrest warrants were prepared on 66 individuals who are collectively in arrears of their child support payments of over $1.1 million.

“The efforts made by law enforcement this morning will make a dramatic difference in our ability to recover the outstanding  support payments so many children depend on in Lafourche Parish,”  said District Attorney Kristine Russell.  “We are incredibly appreciative of Sheriff Webre, Chief Brian Zeringue, Chief Jon Callais, and Louisiana Probation and Parole in helping bring these individuals to justice today.”

Of the 66 individuals, 28 were specifically targeted in the roundup as the highest priority. A total of 20 individuals were arrested as part of the operation, and two other fugitives were arrested who were not part of the operation. Officials say they expect additional arrests to be made in the coming days. The combined child support payments owed by the arrested individuals amounts to nearly $430,000.

The Knights of Columbus Hall on St. Patrick Street in Thibodaux served as the base of operations for Thursday’s roundup. This operation combined the efforts of the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office, Lafourche Parish District Attorney’s Office, Thibodaux Police Department, Port Fourchon Harbor Police, and the Louisiana Department of Probation and Parole.

“These roundups are important to impress upon these people that they do have an obligation to pay,” said Sheriff Webre. “We hope this effort sends a message to the community, especially to those who are behind on their child support payments, that we are vigilant in holding these individuals accountable for what they owe.”

UPDATE: Chackbay Man Charged with Murder after Shooting Neighbor

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a Chackbay man has been charged with Second Degree Murder after shooting his neighbor on Tuesday. Keith Trosclair (age 60) was arrested following a shooting that resulted in the death of 46-year-old Christopher Saunders.

The Sheriff’s Office received the initial call of the shooting at 11:54 a.m. on Tuesday, December 5. When deputies arrived on scene, they discovered Trosclair kneeling on the ground with his hands raised in the air and the victim, identified as Christopher Saunders, was lying on the ground. Deputies observed a rifle lying on the ground between Trosclair and the victim. Deputies also noticed Saunders had a pistol in a holster on his belt. Trosclair was taken into custody, and the Lafourche Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced Saunders dead at the scene.

Through investigation, detectives learned Trosclair and Saunders had an ongoing dispute over property boundary between their residences. Following investigation and interviews of witnesses, detectives developed probable cause for a warrant for Trosclair for Second Degree Murder.

Trosclair was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on one count of Second Degree Murder. His bond is set at $500,000.

BREAKING: Man Dead after Shooting in Chackbay

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced one man is dead following a shooting near a residence on LA Highway 20 in Chackbay. A man, who has been identified as the alleged shooter, is in custody. Detectives are currently on scene.

More information will be released as it can be made available.

5PM UPDATE: The victim has been identified as 46-year-old Christopher Saunders. The alleged shooter in custody has been identified as 60-year-old Keith Trosclair. They were neighbors, and the shooting occurred outside their residences in the 1200 block of LA Highway 20 in Chackbay. The investigation is ongoing, and we’ll release more information as it can be made available.

Seat Belt Checkpoint Slated for December 7

Sheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will conduct a seat belt checkpoint during the daytime hours of Thursday, December 7, 2017, in Lafourche Parish. During the checkpoint, deputies will be checking motorists for seat belt and safety seat violations, as well as for proper inspection tags and insurance. These weekly checkpoints are designed to help raise awareness for these types of violations and make the highways of the parish safer for all motorists.

Mississippi Sex Offender Arrested after Messaging a Local Teen Online

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a registered sex offender from Mississippi has been arrested after he exchanged messages of a sexual nature with a local teenager. Kristopher Kelly (age 34) of Lumberton, Mississippi, is charged with two felonies in the incident.

Kelly was on supervised release from prison. In October 2011, Kelly was convicted of the charge of Fondling in Pearl River County in Mississippi, and he was sentenced to 15 years in prison. He was ordered to serve six years and have nine years of his sentence suspended.

In early November, juvenile detectives opened an investigation into Kelly after learning he had exchanged messages with a teenager from Thibodaux which were sexual in nature. The messages were exchanged online through two social networks. Following an investigation, detectives obtained a warrant for his arrest, and he was arrested by authorities in Pearl River County.

On Thursday, November 30, Kelly was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was booked with Indecent Behavior with Juveniles and Computer-aided Solicitation for Sexual Purposes. His bond is set at $100,000. He is also being held for Pearl River County due to the charges being a violation of his release.

Money Stolen in Two Separate Incidents at a Raceland Casino

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a reward is being offered for information leading to arrests in separate incidents wherein cash was stolen from a Raceland casino on U.S. Highway 90.

The first incident occurred last week on Friday, November 24. Through investigation, detectives learned an unidentified male subject had been gambling inside the casino for some time. At one point, the man approached the cashier’s counter, distracted the cashier, and stole a wallet-style money bag from behind the counter and immediately left the store. The incident was captured on surveillance video. Detectives have determined the man was driving a white SUV, believed to be a 2000-2006 Chevrolet Tahoe. The suspect is described as a white male, approximately 5’9” tall with a beard.

As that investigation was continuing, a second incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, November 29. An unidentified male subject entered the casino and walked into the restroom. Through investigation, detectives learned he climbed through the ceiling in the restroom and climbed down over a partition wall. He then crawled into the casino office, stole cash, and exited the casino. He then fled the scene in a pickup truck, believed to be a blue 2000 Nissan Frontier, heading east on U.S. Highway 90. The suspect is believed to be approximately 5’8” to 5’10” tall with a short-haired beard.

Man Arrested for Shooting at a Bayou Blue Residence

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Jeremy Robinson (age 24) of Bayou Blue on Tuesday after he fired multiple rounds at a Bayou Blue residence.

At around 3:35 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, deputies responded to a report of multiple gunshots in Meadowland Subdivision in Bayou Blue. Upon arrival, deputies discovered several rounds had been fired at a woman’s residential trailer. One round struck the trailer and two other rounds struck a camper parked on the property. No one was injured in the shooting.

Through investigation, detectives learned Robinson was at the trailer with a firearm moments prior to the shooting. He was searching for a man that frequents the residence with which he has an ongoing dispute. The shooting occurred moments after Robinson left the residence.

Robinson met with detectives on Tuesday and gave a statement regarding the incident. Robinson admitted to firing rounds toward the trailer, but he claimed he was shooting back after being fired upon. Investigators found no evidence to support Robinson’s account of a shooter firing at him.

Robinson was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property and Illegal Use of Weapons. His bond is set at $50,000.

Detectives say the investigation into this incident is continuing, and additional charges are possible.

Man on Home Incarceration Arrested after Removing Ankle Bracelet and Leaving Residence

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Ronny Prado (age 33) of Cut Off on Monday. Prado, who was on home incarceration, had removed his ankle bracelet and left his residence.

On September 26, 2017, Prado pled no contest to a third DWI offense, and as part of his sentence, he was ordered to serve 256 days of home incarceration. At around 8:30 p.m. on Monday, November 27, the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office received an alert that Prado’s ankle bracelet was tampered with. Deputies responded to Prado’s residence and discovered Prado had cut off his monitor and left the residence in violation of the terms of his home incarceration. About one hour later, deputies discovered Prado at truck stop in Raceland, and he was taken into custody.

Prado was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked with Simple Escape and Simple Criminal Damage to Property. His bond is set at $110,000.

Information Sought on Raceland Residential Burglary

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for a burglary of a Raceland residence last week.

At 10:30 p.m. on Wednesday, November 22, deputies responded to a residence in the 600 block of Dantin Street in Raceland in reference to a burglary of a residence. Deputies made contact with the residents who reportedly had left the residence four hours prior and returned to find the home had been burglarized. The rear door to the residence was found ajar, and several items had been stolen, including a flat-screen television, two laptop computers, a tablet computer, two gaming consoles, and several other valuable items.

Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance to solve this case. Dulac Man Found with Narcotics and Firearms during Traffic Stop

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a Dulac man after deputies discovered marijuana and firearms in his vehicle during a traffic stop. Andre Bonvillain (age 26) was arrested early Tuesday morning.

At around 1:25 a.m. on Tuesday, November 28, a deputy observed a vehicle which appeared to be traveling without a license plate and conducted a traffic stop on LA Highway 182 near U.S. Highway 90 in Raceland. The deputy made contact with the driver and identified him as Andre Bonvillain. The deputy discovered the vehicle did have a temporary tag, but it was not visible or properly displayed. While speaking to Bonvillain, the deputy detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Bonvillain admitted to smoking marijuana in the vehicle earlier in the day. Deputies conducted a search of the vehicle and found seven small bags containing over 20 grams of suspected marijuana, a digital scale, and other paraphernalia commonly associated with the sale of illegal narcotics. Deputies also discovered a revolver and bullets located near the driver’s seat, and a rifle was discovered in the trunk along with 40 rounds of ammunition.

Bonvillain was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. He was booked with Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and improper display of temporary license plate. His bond is set at $51,100.
