Fugitive Discovered With Drugs During Traffic Stop

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Jayquan Bibs (age 22) of Larose on Wednesday, August 16. Just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday, deputies of the Problem-Oriented Policing Squad conducted a traffic stop on East 23rd Street in Larose due to passengers not wearing seat belts. There were several individuals inside the vehicle, one of whom deputies identified as Jayquan Bibs despite Bibs giving a false name. Deputies took Bibs into custody due to outstanding warrants for two counts of Simple Burglary of a Motor Vehicle and Illegal Possession of Stolen Things. He was found to have suspected crack cocaine and marijuana in his possession. Bibs was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked on the aforementioned warrants, as well as Resisting an Officer and Possession of Crack Cocaine and Marijuana. His bond is set at $25,250. Bibs and two other passengers were issued warnings for seat belt violations.

Bibs warrants stem incidents in 2016. In July, it was discovered he had been in possession of property stolen during a convenience store burglary. Then in December, warrants was obtained after he was developed as a suspect in vehicle burglaries which had occurred on East 25th Street in Larose.

Detectives Seek to Identify Camp Burglary Suspect

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced detectives are attempting to identify a suspect in a burglary investigation. A camp located in the 7000 block of LA Highway 307 in Kraemer was burglarized on Saturday, August 5. A photo of the suspect was captured at around 2:30 p.m., and a white truck was later seen at 2:45 p.m.

Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance to solve this case. Anyone who can identify the suspect or who may have information on this crime is asked to submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers Bayou Region by phone at 1-800-743-7433 or online at www.crimestoppersbr.org. Tips can also be submitted using the P3 Tips app on your mobile device. Tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 in cash if the information leads to an arrest.

Concealed Handgun Course Slated for Saturday, September 16

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced a Concealed Handgun Training Course will be held on Saturday, July 22 at the LPSO Shooting Range Facility located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland. The class will begin at 8:00 a.m. and last until approximately 5:00 p.m. with a break for lunch. The actual ending time will vary due to class size.

The course will include the following:

  • One hour of instruction on handgun nomenclature and safe handling procedures of a revolver and semi-automatic pistol.
  • One hour of instruction on ammunition knowledge and fundamentals of pistol shooting.
  • Three hours of instruction on the use of deadly force and conflict resolution. (Includes a review of R.S. 14:18 through 14:22 and which may include a review of any other laws relating to the use of deadly force)
  • One hour of instruction on handgun shooting positions.
  • One hour of instruction on child access prevention.
  • Two hours of actual live range fire and proper handgun cleaning procedures. Live range fire shall include 12 rounds each at 5 feet, 10 feet, and 15 feet for a total of 36 rounds.
  • Must perform at least one safe reload of the handgun at each distance.
  • Must score 100% hits within the silhouette portion of an NRA B-27 type silhouette target with 36 rounds.

The cost for the course is $110, and advance registration is suggested due to limited class size. Two Men Arrested Saturday Night on a Myriad of Drug Charges

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced Matthew Mayberry (age 24) of Galliano and Bradley Billiot (age 27) of Golden Meadow were arrested on Saturday night on a myriad of drug charges.

At around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 12, deputies conducting an undercover operation in the South Lafourche area observed what appeared to be a drug transaction in the parking lot of a convenience store in Cut Off as one subject deposited a bag inside the rear seat of another vehicle. The suspects departed the store in separate vehicles traveling south on LA Highway 1, and deputies followed. Deputies then observed traffic violations for both vehicles and initiated traffic stops.

Deputies approached one of the vehicles and identified the driver as Bradley Billiot. They detected the odor of marijuana inside in the vehicle, and Billiot admitted to having marijuana and a smoking pipe inside the vehicle. Deputies also noticed the bag in the back seat which had been dropped by the other suspect at the store. Inside the bag, deputies found suspected marijuana, methamphetamine, and several pills later identified as Valium (diazepam), Xanax (alprazolam) and Adderall, as well as drug paraphernalia. The driver of the other vehicle, identified as Matthew Mayberry, had deposited the bag of drugs inside Billiot’s car in the store parking lot.

Mayberry and Billiot were arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where each was booked with Possession of Diazepam, Alprazolam, Adderall, and Drug Paraphernalia. Mayberry was additionally booked with Distribution of Marijuana and Methamphetamine, as well as improper vehicle lighting, and he was released after posting $42,850 bond. Billiot was additionally charged with Possession of Methamphetamine and Marijuana, as well as improper lane usage, and his bond is set at $13,000.

Galliano Man Arrested Following Shooting Incident on Thursday

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Jermie Charles (age 28) of Galliano for a aggravated assault, property damage, and other charges following a shooting incident which occurred Thursday night.

At around 11:40 p.m. on Thursday, August 10, deputies responded to a call of a possible shooting in the area of Jermie Charles’ residence on West Main Street in Galliano. Upon arrival, deputies were unable to find any parties willing to cooperate with the investigation. The following morning, the victim, who is related to Charles, called and agreed to cooperate in the investigation, and detectives responded to the scene. Detectives learned the victim had arrived at Charles’ residence to speak to him, and when he arrived, Charles allegedly aimed a gun at the victim’s head. The victim pushed the barrel of the firearm away, and Charles reportedly fired several rounds into the rear cab of the victim’s pickup truck. Detectives observed two .22 caliber shell casings inside the vehicle and other evidence of rounds being fired into the vehicle.

Detectives made contact with Charles on Friday afternoon, detectives made contact with Charles at his residence. He was found to have two loaded magazines in his possession with the same caliber rounds found to have been used in the incident. Detectives found Charles, who is a convicted felon, also had a protective order prohibiting him from possessing a firearm.

Charles was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux where he was booked with Aggravated Assault with a Firearm, Aggravated Criminal Damage to Property, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, and Violation of a Protective Order. His bond is set at $130,000.

Free Hunter Education Field Day Scheduled for August 30

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a FREE Hunter Education Field Day on Wednesday, August 30 for anyone ages 10 or older who has completed the home study course. The class will take place from 4:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at the LPSO Shooting Range located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland.

 

As an alternative to the traditional two-day classroom course, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries offers an online Home Study Course. Those who complete the home study course must take their completion voucher to a “Field Day” to complete their hunter education.

Entry to the Field Day will be denied unless the completed forms are presented. There will be a written test required to complete the Field Day. Class size is limited. Advance registration is required. CLICK HERE to register for the Field Day.

*Anyone born after September 1, 1969, who wishes to obtain a hunting license in Louisiana, must successfully complete a hunter education course. Exceptions may be granted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for active or veteran members of the United States armed services, for any P.O.S.T.-certified law enforcement officer, or for persons who are under the direct supervision of a person 18-years or older who is already licensed and has taken the approved course. Exceptions must be applied for and approved by Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Drugs and Firearms Found During Parole Compliance Check

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced three people were charged and a fugitive was arrested during a parole compliance check on Tuesday. Agents arrested Tyronne Cheramie (age 45) and Tilden Billiot (age 48), both of Galliano. Wanda Plaisance (age 48) of Cut Off was also charged in the incident, and Jason Bourg (age 48) of Cut Off was arrested on an active warrant.

During a compliance check on Tyronne Cheramie on Tuesday, August 8, Louisiana Probation and Parole agents discovered narcotics at his Galliano residence and contacted Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics agents. Billiot, Bourg, and Plaisance were also at the residence during this time. Upon arrival, agents discovered heroin and drug paraphernalia in plain sight in Cheramie’s bedroom. Agents obtained a search warrant for the residence and found small amounts of suspected narcotics, including methamphetamine, marijuana, and two handguns, one of which was found to have been stolen out of Jefferson Parish. He was also in possession of prescription medication for which he had no prescription. Cheramie was arrested and transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was booked with Possession of Methamphetamine, Marijuana, and Drug Paraphernalia, as well as Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, Possession of a Legend Drug without Prescription, Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance, and Illegal Possession of a Stolen Firearm. His bond is set at $191,500. He is also being held for Probation and Parole.

Billiot was also found to be in possession of prescription medication, as well as clonazepam and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with Possession of Clonezam and Drug Paraphernalia, as well as Possession of a Legend Drug without Prescription. He was booked into the Detention Center, and his bond is set at $16,000.

Bourg was found to have an active warrant due to failure to pay child support. He was booked into the Detention Center with Contempt of Court, and his bond is set at $25,000.

Plaisance was found to have drug paraphernalia as well as a needle containing an unknown substance. She was issued a criminal summons for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Meanwhile, the unknown substance and other narcotics have been sent to the State Police Crime Lab for testing, and additional charges may be possible following testing.

Change Machine Stolen from Bayou Blue Car Wash

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for theft of a change machine at a Bayou Blue car wash.

Just after 4:00 a.m. on Monday, August 7, investigators responded to a car wash on LA Highway 316 in Bayou Blue after receiving a report that a large change machine had been stolen. Detectives found the entire box had been removed from the brick wall, and it is believed a large hammer was used due to marks found on the wall. It is estimated that several hundred dollars in change was in the machine, and the machine itself is valued at approximately $3,000.

Two Habitual DWI Offenders Arrested over the Weekend

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced two men were arrested for their third and fifth DWI offenses over the weekend. Lonnie Lebouef (age 39) of Bridge City and Dwight Southall of Belle Rose were each charged in separate incidents.

At around 5:20 p.m. on Friday, August 4, deputies responded to a gas station in Bayou Blue in reference to a driver having fallen asleep behind the wheel. Deputies made contact with the driver, identified as Lonnie Lebouef, and detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage from him. Lebouef was exhibiting signs of possible intoxication, and he admitted to having consumed several alcoholic beverages prior to driving. Lebouef assured deputies he was not drunk, but he refused to submit to a field sobriety test or a breathalyzer test. Deputies learned Lebouef was convicted of his fourth DWI offense in January 2015, and he did not have a valid driver’s license. Deputies obtained a warrant for a blood test, and the results are pending. Lebouef was arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center. He was booked with DWI (4th and Subsequent Offenses) and no driver’s license, and he was booked as a fugitive of Jefferson Parish. His bond amount for the Lafourche Parish charges is set at $105,000.

Then during the early morning hours of Saturday, August 5, deputies initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle along Saint Mary Street in Thibodaux and identified the driver as Dwight Southall. Deputies detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Southall, and he was exhibiting signs of possible intoxication. Southall refused to submit to a field sobriety test or a breathalyzer, and deputies obtained a warrant for a blood test. Due to two prior DWI arrests, Southall was arrested and charged with DWI (3rd Offense), driving under suspension, and failure to dim headlights. His bond is set at $27,100.

Larose Couple Charged with Cruelty to a Juvenile

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced Jared Richeaux (age 30) and Jada Verdin (age 31), both of Larose, have been arrested for cruelty to a juvenile. On July 15, 2017, deputies began an investigation into possible child abuse. Through investigation, juvenile detectives learned Richeaux allegedly struck the child multiple times on his buttocks with what he referred to as a “paddle.” Detectives learned the “paddle” was actually a piece of wood which was 2 inches by 4 inches thick with holes drilled into it. This caused the child to suffer a large bruise and several red marks on the buttocks. Detectives also learned Verdin had disposed of the piece of wood. Following an investigation, detectives obtained arrest warrants for Richeaux and Verdin. They turned themselves in on Wednesday, August 2, and were booked into jail on one count each of Cruelty to a Juvenile. They subsequently bonded out the same day. Richeaux’s bond had been set at $5,000, and Verdin’s bond was set at $2,500.
