UPDATE: Suspect Arrested in Vehicle Burglary and Stolen Credit Card Investigation

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a suspect wanted for the theft of a wallet in Lafourche Parish and use of a stolen credit card in Terrebonne Parish has been identified and arrested. Geoffrey Galliano, 34, of Larose faces and theft and burglary charges.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office detectives investigated a vehicle burglary in the Cut Off area in which a wallet was stolen from an unlocked vehicle. The wallet contained a credit card, driver’s license, and other important documents. Meanwhile, investigators learned the credit card stolen in the burglary was used at a department store in Terrebonne Parish to purchase a television, laptop computer, and other electronic devices.

Images of the suspect were released to the public and posted on social media. Dozens of anonymous tips were submitted to Crime Stoppers Bayou Region identifying the suspect as Geoffrey Galliano. Warrants were obtained for Theft in Terrebonne Parish and Simple Burglary in Lafourche Parish.

Galliano turned himself over to authorities in Terrebonne Parish on October 15, 2019, and he was booked on the theft charge. On October 17, 2019, he was booked with Simple Burglary in Lafourche Parish.

Detectives Investigating Copper Theft at Lockport Shipyard

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is asking for the public’s help in an investigation into copper that was recently stolen from a shipyard in Lockport.

Last week, deputies responded to a report of theft at a shipyard in Lockport. Deputies learned two rolls of copper welding cable had been stolen from the shipyard. The incident occurred at 9:47 p.m. on October 8, 2019, and was captured by a nearby surveillance camera. The suspect appears to be a white male, and he was driving a dark gray Chevrolet or GMC pickup truck.

Deputies are now seeking the public’s help in this case. Anyone who may recognize the suspect or vehicle or anyone with any knowledge of this crime is asked to submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers Bayou Region by phone at 1-800-743-7433 or online at www.crimestoppersbr.org. Tips can also be submitted using the P3 Tips app on your mobile device. Tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 in cash if the information leads to an arrest.

Cut Off Man Arrested for Sex Crimes Involving Four Juveniles

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of a Cut Off Man for several sex crimes involving multiple victims. Gregory Berthusen, 53, faces several charges in the investigation.

Juvenile detectives had been investigating recent incidents in which Berthusen reportedly had inappropriate contact with three teenage juvenile girls. A fourth victim, now an adult, reported a pattern of sex abuse by Berthusen for years beginning when she was nine years old. Through investigation, warrants were obtained for his arrest.

Berthusen was taken into custody in Jefferson County, Texas. He was transferred to Lafourche Parish on October 11, 2019, and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux. He was charged with Molestation of a Juvenile, two counts of Felony Sexual Battery, three counts of Misdemeanor Sexual Battery, and three counts of Indecent Behavior with Juveniles. Bail is set at $205,000.

The investigation into Berthusen is continuing, and additional charges are possible. Due to the nature of the crimes and investigation, detectives believe there may be additional victims. MISSING TEEN: Skylor Rachal

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is asking for the public’s help in locating 15-year-old Skylor Rachal of Cut Off. Rachal was last seen leaving her East 95th Street residence and walking up the street at around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2019.

Rachal is described as 5’7” tall, weighing approximately 150 pounds with brown hair. She was last seen wearing a blue long sleeve shirt, denim shorts, brown sandals, and brown glasses. Anyone with information on her whereabouts is asked to call the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office at (985) 532-2808, or simply dial 9-1-1.

Two Arrested After Agents Seize Over Six Pounds of Methamphetamine

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of two men who were found with over six pounds of meth on Thursday. Jasmine Antoine, 29, of Gray and Louis Antoine, 27, of Gibson were arrested as part of a joint narcotics investigation with the Terrebonne Parish Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency.

On October 10, 2019, Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office narcotics agents made contact with the two men in the parking lot of a pharmacy in Thibodaux. Through investigation, agents had obtained intelligence about narcotics in the vehicle in which they were traveling. Initially, Louis Antoine attempted to run, but he was quickly apprehended. Agents obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and discovered 6.35 pounds of methamphetamine and 17 Tramadol pills. Both men were arrested and booked into the Lafourche Parish Correctional Complex in Thibodaux.

Louis Antoine was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Resisting an Officer, and he was booked on an outstanding warrant for Contempt of Court. His bail is set at $1,005,250. He is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole.

Jasmine Antoine was charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine and Tramadol. His bail is set at $1.05 million. He is also being held for Louisiana Probation and Parole.

Agents indicate this investigation is continuing and additional arrests are possible.

Public’s Help Wanted to Identify Thibodaux Theft Suspect

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is asking for the public’s help to identify a man wanted for theft in Thibodaux.

On the night of October 5, 2019, deputies responded to a theft at a convenience store located on LA Highway 3185 in Thibodaux. A store patron had left his wallet on the counter near a cash register. He returned moments later, but the wallet was gone. The store manager reviewed the surveillance video and observed another man take the unattended wallet from the counter. The wallet contained cash, credit cards, identification cards, and security cards.

Free Hunter Safety Courses Slated for October 2019

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will host a FREE Hunter Education Classroom Course and a Hunter Education Field Day in October for anyone ages 10 or older.

CLASSROOM COURSE:
The traditional “Classroom Course” is a two-day course covering topics such as hunter responsibility and ethics, how firearms work and firearms safety, survival and first aid skills, firearm handling skills and hunting techniques, wildlife identification, game care, and information related to wildlife conservation and management. The next Classroom Course will be offered Saturday, October 26 through Sunday, October 27, 2019. The first day will be the classroom portion from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office Training Academy, located at 1300 Lynn Street in Thibodaux. The class will resume the following day from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the LPSO Shooting Range located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland. Participants must attend BOTH days of the class and pass a written and practical exam to be certified. Class size is limited. Advance registration is required. FIELD DAY:
As an alternative to the two-day course, a Home Study Course is available online through the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries website. Those who complete the home study course MUST take their completion voucher to a “Field Day” to complete their hunter education. The next Field Day will be offered on Wednesday, October 23, 2019, from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. at the LPSO Shooting Range. Entry to the Field Day will be denied unless the completed forms are presented. *Anyone born after September 1, 1969, who wishes to obtain a hunting license in Louisiana, must successfully complete a hunter education course. Exceptions may be granted by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries for active or veteran members of the United States armed services, for any P.O.S.T.-certified law enforcement officer, or for persons who are under the direct supervision of a person 18-years or older who is already licensed and has taken the approved course. Exceptions must be applied for and approved by the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.

Ninth Annual Bayou Region Public Safety Expo Scheduled for Saturday, October 19

Sheriff Craig Webre invites the public to join the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and more than 30 other public service agencies at the 9th Annual Bayou Region Public Safety Expo. This fun-filled event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2019, at the Warren J. Harang Jr. Municipal Auditorium, located at 310 North Canal Boulevard in Thibodaux.

This event is free to the public, and there will be information and demonstrations for all ages. The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will display vehicles, tools, and technology used by deputies on a daily basis to keep our citizens safe. Those who attend can get a first-hand look at several vehicles used by LPSO including our mobile command vehicle, water patrol boat, motorcycle, and other equipment. Explorers from POST 323 will be providing Child IDs, fingerprinting and DNA swabs.

More than 30 public agencies from Lafourche and Terrebonne, including law enforcement, fire, medical and emergency preparedness, will be on hand displaying similar equipment and vehicles such as helicopters, tactical equipment, ambulances, fire trucks and much more. Other activities at the expo include K-9 demonstrations, equipment demonstrations, safety demonstrations, interactive training tools, and child safety seat inspections. Food and drinks will also be available to the public.

Detectives Seek to Identify Suspects in String of Vehicle Burglaries in Bourg

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre is asking for the public’s help to identify two men wanted for a string of vehicle burglaries in Bourg.

In late September 2019, detectives began investigating several vehicle burglaries that occurred in the Bourg area. In one incident, two male subjects attempted to burglarize a vehicle in the 100 block of Matherne Street at a residence equipped with surveillance cameras. The cameras captured video of the subjects attempting to open the vehicle by lifting the door handles.

Detectives are asking for the public’s help in this case. UPDATE: Missing Elderly Bayou Blue Woman Found Safe

UPDATE: Chiasson’s family reported that she returned home Thursday morning shortly after this release was issued. Detectives have confirmed she is back home and safe.

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a Silver Alert has been issued statewide for 82-year-old Lydie Chiasson of Bayou Blue who has been missing since Wednesday, October 2, 2019. She was last seen at around 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday leaving her residence with an unknown male friend in a small brown van, which is possibly a Dodge Caravan. She does not have a cell phone in her possession.

Chiasson is a white female with gray hair, 5’3” tall, and she weighs approximately 130 pounds. She was last seen wearing a black and white shirt bearing a pattern design with black pants.
