Drugs and Firearms Found at Raceland Man’s Residence

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced the arrest of Dan Use (age 54) of Raceland on Monday, July 10. A search warrant was obtained for Use’s St. Anthony Street residence as part of an investigation into illegal activity at the residence. At around 4:30 p.m. on Monday, patrol deputies and narcotics agents arrived at Use’s residence and informed him of the search warrant. During the search, agents discovered suspected methamphetamine, hydrocodone, and clonazepam, as well as drug paraphernalia, two handgun, and three rifles. Use was arrested and charged with Possession of Hydrocodone, Clonazepam, Methamphetamine, and Drug Paraphernalia, as well as Illegal Carrying of a Weapon in the Presence of a Controlled Dangerous Substance. He was booked into the Lafourche Parish Detention Center and subsequently released after posting $26,000 bond.

Agents Arrest Eight as Part of Heroin Operation

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced an investigation into the distribution of heroin in the Thibodaux area has resulted in eight arrests following a four-month investigation.

During the operation, narcotics agents investigated several subjects who were traveling to the New Orleans area to pick up heroin and transporting it back to Lafourche for sale. After investigating several cases, the operation resulted in the arrests of the following individuals:

  • Kenneth Babin Jr. (age 35) of Thibodaux – Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin;
  • Shawn Cashio (age 28) of Thibodaux – Distribution of Heroin (two counts), Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, Issuing Worthless Checks, Contempt of Court;
  • Todd Cashio (age 32) of Thibodaux – Distribution of Heroin (three counts), Possession with Intent to Distribute Heroin, Possession of Methamphetamine, Marijuana, and Drug Paraphernalia;
  • Shea Cortez (age 30) of Thibodaux – Principal to Distribution of Heroin;
  • Abby Eschete (age 33) of Schriever – Distribution of Heroin (two counts);
  • Kenneth Gros Jr. (age 49) of Thibodaux – Distribution of Morphine (two counts), Distribution of Ativan (two counts), Distribution of Oxycodone, Possession of a Legend Drug without Prescription, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia;
  • Corey Ortis (age 41) of Thibodaux – Distribution of Methamphetamine (two counts), Possession with Intent to Distribute Methamphetamine, Clonazepam, and Xanax, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia; and
  • Troy Rodrigue (age 36) of Thibodaux – Distribution of Heroin, Contempt of Court.

All are currently booked at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux except Rodrigue who is currently incarcerated at the Terrebonne Parish Jail.

Narcotics agents say others have been identified as part of the operation, and additional arrests are expected.

UPDATE: All Four Suspects Charged in Attempted Vehicle Theft from Dealership

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced four suspects wanted in connection with the attempted theft of automobiles at a Cut Off dealership have all been arrested. Mark Cheramie (age 44) of Barataria and Meaghan Eymard (age 27) of Marrero were arrested Friday, and Jeffrey Desalvo (age 33) of New Orleans was arrested Saturday. The fourth suspect, previously known only as “Joey,” was also arrested Saturday after being identified as Waldon Joseph Dufrene Jr. (age 34) of Westwego.

At around 2:25 p.m. on Friday, July 7, deputies were dispatched to Golden Motors in Cut Off in reference to three sets of vehicle keys being stolen. Investigators learned Cheramie had posed as Eymard’s father to test drive a vehicle as a scheme for Desalvo to gain access to other vehicle keys. At one point, Eymard created a distraction, and Desalvo stole three vehicle keys from behind a desk. Employees quickly discovered the missing keys and reviewed surveillance video. Employees then confronted Desalvo, and he returned the keys. Desalvo and Dufrene then fled the scene in a white Nissan Frontier pickup truck, stranding Cheramie and Eymard at the dealership. Detectives obtained warrants, and Cheramie and Eymard were placed under arrest. Eymard was also found to have drug paraphernalia in her possession. Both were charged with three counts of Attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle. Cheramie remains in jail in lieu of $5,000 bond. Eymard was also charged with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and she was released Sunday morning after posting $5,300 bond.

Then on Saturday afternoon, July 8, deputies responded to a convenience store in Cut Off in reference to a concerned citizen reporting Desalvo and Dufrene were at the store. Deputies located the suspects, and Dufrene was taken into custody. Desalvo resisted, and attempted to flee the store, but he was also apprehended. Both were transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center and booked with three counts of Attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle. Dufrene’s bond is set at $5,000. Desalvo was additionally booked with Resisting an Officer, as well as driving under suspension and Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle due nearly striking several vehicle when fleeing the dealership. His bond is set at $11,100.

Then on Sunday, July 9, deputies discovered an abandoned Nissan Frontier just off LA Highway 3235 in Cut Off. Through investigation, deputies learned it was the truck Desalvo was driving during the attempted vehicle theft. Deputies made contact with the registered owner and learned he had left the truck at a car dealership in Harvey for repairs on Monday, July 3. Deputies turned the information over to the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office for investigation, and it is believed the truck was stolen from the Harvey dealership at some point between Wednesday, July 5 and Friday, July 7.

Two Arrested, Two Sought for Attempted Vehicle Theft at Dealership

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced two people were arrested and two more are being sought in connection with the attempted theft of automobiles at a Cut Off dealership. Detectives obtained warrants, and both were placed under arrest. Eymard was also found to have drug paraphernalia in her possession.

Eymard and Cheramie were transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center in Thibodaux. They were each booked with three counts of Attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle. Cheramie’s bond is set at $5,000. Eymard was additionally booked with Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and her bond is set at $5,300.

Detectives have also obtained warrants for Desalvo’s arrest for three counts of Attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle. When fleeing the scene, Desalvo drove away at a high rate of speed, nearly striking several vehicles, and detectives also learned his license is suspended. He is, therefore, also wanted for Reckless Operation of a Motor Vehicle and driving under suspension.

The fourth suspect, known only as “Joey,” is described as a white male, around 5’10” tall, and weighing approximately 175 pounds. He has tattoos on both arms and short hair.

Concealed Handgun Course Slated for Saturday, July 22

The Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office has announced a Concealed Handgun Training Course will be held on Saturday, July 22 at the LPSO Shooting Range Facility located at 3451 Highway 182 in Raceland. The class will begin at 8:00 a.m. and last until approximately 5:00 p.m. with a break for lunch. The actual ending time will vary due to class size.

The course will include the following:

  • One hour of instruction on handgun nomenclature and safe handling procedures of a revolver and semi-automatic pistol.
  • One hour of instruction on ammunition knowledge and fundamentals of pistol shooting.
  • Three hours of instruction on the use of deadly force and conflict resolution. (Includes a review of R.S. 14:18 through 14:22 and which may include a review of any other laws relating to the use of deadly force)
  • One hour of instruction on handgun shooting positions.
  • One hour of instruction on child access prevention.
  • Two hours of actual live range fire and proper handgun cleaning procedures. Live range fire shall include 12 rounds each at 5 feet, 10 feet, and 15 feet for a total of 36 rounds.
  • Must perform at least one safe reload of the handgun at each distance.
  • Must score 100% hits within the silhouette portion of an NRA B-27 type silhouette target with 36 rounds.

The cost for the course is $110, and advance registration is suggested due to limited class size. Golden Meadow Man Wanted for Sexual Battery of a Child under the Age of 13

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced Rusty Lebouef (age 36) of Golden Meadow is wanted for Sexual Battery of a child under the age of 13.

In June 2017, juvenile detectives opened an investigation after speaking with the victim. Through investigation, detectives learned Lebouef allegedly had inappropriate sexual contact with the victim. Detectives contacted Lebouef, but he refused to cooperate in the investigation. Attempts to locate Lebouef were unsuccessful.

Several Thousand Dollars of Property Stolen in Bayou Blue Burglary

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre announced a reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for the burglary of a mobile home and a shed in Bayou Blue wherein several thousand dollars of property was stolen.

On Thursday morning, July 6, deputies and detectives responded to a complaint of a burglary in the 100 block of Bayou Blue Road. A resident reported that his mobile home and a shed were burglarized. Investigators discovered signs of forced entry into both structures. They also discovered motion-sensor lights had been damaged and wires to security cameras had been cut. Several items of value were stolen, including a covered trailer, an all-terrain vehicle, an outboard motor, a pressure washer, a shotgun, a crossbow, fishing rods and reels, various tools, and other items. The resident had last been at the property on Friday, June 30, and so, the residence and shed were burglarized at some point between that time and Thursday morning.

Detectives are asking for the public’s assistance to solve this case. Man Wielding Cane Knife Arrested for Threatening Citizens and Deputies

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported the arrest of Urie Ledet (age 30) of Gheens on four counts of aggravated assault, including two against deputies.

At around 6:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 6, deputies responded to a disturbance on North Leon Drive in Gheens wherein a man was allegedly chasing a woman with a knife. Upon arrival to the area, deputies received a report that Urie Ledet was seen walking along LA Highway 654 with a large cane knife in his hand, and they later learned he was at a residence in the 2100 block. Upon arrival to the residence, deputies heard a disturbance in the back yard and proceeded to the area. Ledet appeared from the rear of the house and began approaching deputies aggressively with the knife raised. Deputies ordered Ledet to drop the knife, and he did so after several loud verbal commands. Ledet was taken into custody and the knife was secured.

Through investigation at the scene, deputies learned Ledet was chasing another man around his yard with the knife prior to deputies’ arrival. Deputies also made contact with a woman who said Ledet approached her with the knife forcing her to climb on top of a shed. Ledet then reportedly began throwing the knife in the woman’s direction, threatening to kill her. When questioned about the incident, Ledet admitted to his involvement.

Ledet was transported to the Lafourche Parish Detention Center where he was charged with two counts of Aggravated Assault and two counts of Aggravated Assault on a Police Officer. His bond is set st $22,000.

Toddler Dies of Suspected Drowning in Swimming Pool on July 4

Lafourche Parish Sheriff Craig Webre reported a two-year-old boy died as a result of a suspected drowning in a swimming pool on Tuesday, July 4. Kevin Cortez III of Lockport was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

At around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, July 4, deputies responded to a residence in the 100 block of North Service Road in Raceland in reference to a two-year-old, identified as Kevin Cortez III, having been found unresponsive in a swimming pool at a family gathering. While en route to the residence, deputies were informed that the juvenile had been transported to Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital. Investigators learned the Cortez was last seen playing with other children inside the residence. A short time later, Cortez was no longer inside the house, and adults began searching for him. His father located him at the bottom of a swimming pool on the property. Family members administered CPR at the scene, and then, Cortez was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Investigators indicate foul play is not suspected in the incident.

2017 National Night Out Against Crime Scheduled for Tuesday, August 1

2017 NNO LogoSheriff Craig Webre announced the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office will once again be participating in the National Night Out Against Crime scheduled for Tuesday, August 1. This is the 34th annual nationwide event,

Citizens will host block parties throughout the parish, and Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies will be attending to meet community members to discuss crime prevention and any other concerns. Explorers from POST 323 will also be conducting fingerprinting and DNA swabbing in some areas, and hot dogs, soft drinks and other refreshments will be provided at each of the block parties.
